| Savage model 12fv or Remington 700 sps varmint Hey. I'm new to this site, and I am about to purchase a varmint gun. I want a 22 250 and these are the two calibers I have it narrowed down to Savage model 12fv or the remington 700 sps varmint. For the price I think these are my best options. Do you have any advice? |

| I like the savage and stevens rifles very well, they are excellent shooters right out of the box,

Welcome to the site. First things first. "claiber" is the diameter of the bore, expressed in hundreths of an inch. In your case 22-250 is your chosen cartridge. Being .22 inches in diameter, thus a 22 caliber. The 250 stands for the parent cartridge it was derived from, which was a 250-3000 Savage. Savage and Remington manufacture firearms and the 12f and the 700 sps varmint are model numbers, either of which you will not go wrong if you purchase. Good luck on the varmints. | |

| Savage doesn't let a rifle out of the factory unless it shoots 1MOA. Remington has a slightly smoother action, and comes with a decent stock, but you can't get Savage accuracy without fine tuning to the Remington. My Savage has never had a hiccup, and shoots .5 MOA in the wind.

| Ha Ha thanks rdale501 for the correction. I was on lunch break while typing so I didn't have much time to be "correct". I have been leaning toward the savage but I wasn't sure if there was a significant difference in the two. My brother owns a savage left handed model and he can shoot a group you can cover with a dime at 100yds. |

| My experience is that you can spend a lot of money chasing the accuracy that a Savage will give you right out of the box. I have a Cooper 223 WSSM that I have a ton of money wrapped up in. My brother has a Savage heavy barreled 25-06 that he has 450 total in. We go to our range and punch paper all the time. I have put a ton of work in hand loading for my Cooper to get under a half inch MOA at 100 yards. My brother loaded up a test batch of 25-06 laid down and shot a sub MOA group right away. With very little tinkering he is shooting one ragged hole three shot groups. Drives me crazy but it has also made me a huge fan of Savage rifles. |

| Either one is now a quality product Find the one you like as to fit and trigger pull. They are each quality products capable of excellent performance. It is really up to you to practice rather than think about any differences in the guns. |

| nushooter, if your cooper wont shoot well under what your getting, send it back- cooper will make it shoot. as for the original question, i own both rifles. the remington comes with a better stock(not great, but better), and a better trigger. pick which ever feels best for you, they will both shoot fairly well. |
