| Hey guys, I am finally going groundhog hunting, There are quite a few of them that live in a field just below my house. The gun I will be using is a mossberg/cbc .22 LR. Most of my shots would be between 15-30 yards, although my gun is accurate to about 50 yards. What in your oppinions would be the best ammo for groundhog hunting? I have a box of cci stingers, how would they do on some groundhog at 15-30 yards? Thanks,nc.hunter. ps. My .22 is semi-automatic.

| Use the most accurate ammo you have for your gun and then go for head shots. You should be able to make them at 30 yards. I have seen many groundhogs run off after being shot in the chest with a .22LR.

| That is what they were first created for if you read Cci web site. They work great for ground hogs!

| I shoot them with a 22 with the cheap 40 gr hps and they work, sometimes just takes a follow up. main reason we shoot them is farmers hate them so even if i miss the second the thing isn't gonna go all that far. Although there is usually 2 of us and we hit him at the same time and hes done. semi auto is good for gh tho cause they don't sit still after they are hit! lol |

| +1 to Pumpkinheaver. I've seen the same thing.... groundhogs hit solid in the chest with a .22 run off to die later. Stingers in the head will do the job. |

| I highly reccomend for any 22 LR hunting CCI Velociters. They are not as fast as Stingers but are 40 grains and they are effective! My friend shot a skunk with a Velociter and it went clean through and left a 1/2 in. exit hole, that is some serious 22 LR power! I am going to try and use them for coyote this Fall/Winter.

| I used the old Western Auto, 35 cent box of long rifles that were at best 1000 fps [more like 950] Back in the 60's along with shorts, longs and the CCI mini mags. I used a Mossberg bolt .22 for many groundhog kills. I have liked the hollow points but the solid point are good too. Understand your enviroment, remember speed, mass and placement are your main concerns. You have a very good round in the CCI stingers. You'll have fun and that a gar-ron-tee as Justin Wilson would say |

| I'm sorry, but I disagree with .22 rimfires on woodchucks. Yeah, you'll kill them, but a lot of them will dive in their hole and slowly die there. Please, use a real cartridge, all of the center-fire .22s and anything you like larger. Kill them where they stand, don't just mortally wound them. Be responsible. A good hunter doesn't inflict suffering on an animal. A few years ago, I shot a chuck with a Marlin .22 WMR. The farmer, landowner I was with told me the shot was 225 - 250 yards. The critter was sitting on top of a pasture rock pile. I rested on the hood of the truck and let it fly. OH Yeah, I got him, but he left an inch and a half wide blood trail going down his hole. That was a .22 magnum. I still wonder if I just blew a front leg off, maiming the critter. I guess what I'm trying to say, is what I say all along, Hunt any game with a bullet designed to take that game. I don't understand the fixation some folks have to take the largest game with the smallest bullet. When I shoot anything, I want it knocked off its pins, dead, there.
