Ground hogs this week! (warning: somewhat graphic)

Well got 3 so far, only 2 pics tho sorry. One on monday, the little one belly up (actually 2 on monday other one was out in a way too muddy field so no pics). then got the momma today. 223 wssm about 150 yds both clean shoulder shots. The little one had beans in its mouth and somehow the nerves kept it munchin away after it was hit. It was weird. No more eatin beans for these hogs now though.

lol well keep practicing you will get there. I haven't shot much at that distance either, i could hit a 5 gallon bucket at 350 tho, of course a groundhog isn't as big as a 5 gallon bucket lol

If you dress those Ground Hogs out and be sure to remove the glands from the front arm pits and then throw in a crock pot and cook slow, they taste like Sirloin Steak.

They actually eat better than Cow does, the Cow eats the top part of the plant and the Ground Hog the tops and bottoms. some onion and a few carrots and you have a real good stew.

hmm never tried that^^^ those varmint rounds do a little too much damage for a lot of meat to be saved i think....although that big one had a lot of blood and a little hole, must have all be internal.

The one not pictured i shot with my 22 mag that couldn't have done too much damage but walking across mud to get it didn't happen.

And yes, it does suck to not hunt deer with a rifle in Ohio, although we do have some big deer! (too bad i can't seem to find one lol)

Andrew,

You just made me think. Our Groundhogs hibernate and whther that helps the taste or not, I do not know. I know it is best to eat them before the end of June, because the HOt weather changes the flavor. Down in yoru neck of the woods, no hibernation and always hot weather, let me know how it comes out.....

Two more hogs from last night. That was the luckiest groundhog hunt ever, went to my cousins, as soon as i got up in this platform we shoot off of in their backyard (was a tree house) i saw one walk out of the woods, shot and another one went running and i got them both....about 200 yards, Win. 70 223 wssm.

fields and where ever there is food. they eat almost anything they can get there paws on. last week i shot one that was holding a corn cob, so just find a farmer and he should have no problem letting you take em out for him.

im not sure if they are up there. they like hot, sunny weather and dont like wind because it makes it hard for them to sense danger. but i think if they were in your area you would know or at least see them.
