Talking Our SD Prairie Dog trip

Well, actually it was a family reunion of sorts on my wife's side gathering at Deadwood.
I told the wife during the planning, that I was going to take one day for shooting PD's with some freinds that I met on the SpecialtyPistols forum board.
It was rather unfortunate that it was very windy on Saturday, but a great time was had by all, and nothing beats meeting people you have come to know on the net!!!
The wind from where we had to set up, was crossing mostly at 25-30 mph and gusting to 40mph. Made for shooting the far ridge at 750 yds give or take extremely challenging to say the least. Specially when I didn't have room for my machine rest.
I'm not sure any of us made any hits much beyond 500 yds.
I was playing with the .243 Ai 15" Encore pistol mainly,,,as I just put a new scope on it and actually had a new frame for it as well.
I spent most of my time after sighting the scope in, just getting a feel for the different trigger. But I did get on a few and made some good first shot hits in the 300-350 yd range with the 55 gr. NBT's
Most of the time, I was spotting for my son Matt, as this was his first experience on PD's, and he hadn't shot my 26" 6mmAi Encore much either.
I had just as much fun if not more ,calling the adjustments to Matt.
Although after some time getting use to it, and figuring out the wind as best as possible, his first PD was lazered at 396 yds. He was hooked on PD's from that point on.. Matt's longest was pushing 500, at 482 lazered.
His statement was, "wow, we gota come back and bring Becca,,,,she'll love this"
Well, here's a few pic's. I didn't take time to take alot. Dave my buddy from Ellsworth AFB was video'g some, I'll have to see what he came up with.

This town was about 30 miles SE of Rapid City, and does get shot at a fair amount, so the dogs were alil skittish, and shoot wasn't fast
South end stops about where the cows were at,,,,

North end(left side ridgeline, about 780 yds)

My buds from Ellsworth (left to right)
Shane, Jamie, and Dave, with Matty on the far end bench.

Matt's first PD at 396 yds (Good thing there wasnt much catus to contend with)

he's was dbl checking the range back to the vehicles

Shane and Jamie had to leave, so I was spotting and Dave was running the video for Matt

Looks like a nice sunny day at least. We shot some dogs aou of Sheridan Wyoming back on the 10th of June and had to dodge rain squalls AND wind. Area we were shooting in is getting built up and we could only shoot over a small portion of the dog town because of nearby activity. New gravel pit to the left and horses to the right but still a good arc out in front.

These dogs hadn't had any action and were dumb as he!!. The new spring grass was almost as tall as the pups which was different. Longest shot I could work in was 275 yards.

My niece has sold this place and bought a 600 cow outfit over on the Mt-Wy border on the powder river so next year we will be shooting there.

Here's a pic that my buddy Dave just sent.
He and Matt had walked out and he took it on his phone. I didn't go with as I was being lazy, and I could see it well enough in the spotting scope
It was my first connect with the Encore pistol .243 AI pushing the 55gr. NBT at 3450.
The pd was laying down facing almost straight away at 314yds. My aim point was the base of his tail,,,,,looks like I was off abit

My Daughter got her first blood with her .222 Rem at around 175 yards. I told her to pick it up and show it but she wouldn't. This wan near Sheridan WY a few hundred miles west of you guys.
