Marlin .17 HMR

I couldn't stand it so I went a bought a gently used Marlin .17 HMR just to see what the hype is all about. I mounted a 3X9 Bushnell on it tonight and hope to shoot it this weekend. Just want to see if it performs out to 200 yards like everyone says.

you wont be dissapointed, i went with the savage but marlin makes just as good. iv never shot at 200yds but i have heard about pretty good accuracy that far. i get some great groups at 100yds. what ammo do you have? im going to test 3 types sometime soon (was going to today but weather said no) hornady, which is what iv been using, federal and remington.

I picked up a box of Horady V-Max with the gun but also want to try out some CCI just for banging away. I think my daughter will like this gun after she gets over the fact that Dad just bought ANOTHER gun. I don't think I can reload for the .222 Rem for the price of these .17's.

Took the gun out to the range this afternoon and got it sighted in and was able to get the group down tight at 50 yards. Then I spent a lot of time with my 26 yr old daughter with her .380 pistol. She wants to get her CCW soon and wanted to practice.

Looks like this gun will work out but i need a better scope for it. I just hung a cheapo Bushnell on it for starters.

i have a simmons 3-9x40 on mine and it works fine for out to 100yds but if your still interested in 200yds youl definetly need a better scope....maybe look into a BSA sweet 17 6-18x40. its made just for the .17 caliber. it comes in different magnifications but thats the best for 200yds.

nothing wrong with a better grade simons. I use one of them on my 270 win, and have had them on various guns since. The better grade ones are good, not as good as a nikon, but good. I really like the nikon scopes, they are on my long range guns.
