Prairie Dog Hunts

Has anyone done any prairie dog hunts in the states of Wyoming, Montana, South or North Dakota. If so could you recommend any good places to go. I found some on the internet but personal experience I find makes a better trip.

Thanks

First off, the plague has been moving about in areas that you mentioned. So, what was good in areas may change rapidly. My suggestion would be rather than direct internet searches, is to pick an area you would like to go. Then call the Chamber of Commerce in the towns/cities in that area. They usually have a list of ranchers, call them and see what the current situation is.

I vote for the corner of MT-WY and SD area. Most anywhere from Belle Fouche on west is pretty good out to around Sheridan Wy. I potted a bunch in the Powder River area north of I-90 out of Gillette wy last june.

Also gives you a chance to take in the Black Hills while you are out there.

If you want a guided hunt I might could get you hooked up with an outfitter out of Hardin Mt.

I am new here but I can offer some suggestions. It really depends on how far you are willing to go, how much shooting do you expect, would you bring your accomodations or use what is local and when you want to do it.
My sister farms dryland wheat in the middle of the prairie here in CO...she has pds. lots of pds. We shoot them year roundbut May and Sept are best.

you sure thisis not a birtday gift for yourself?

Consider yourself lucky if your wife is as into shooting as you are.

Always surprises me how few people actually take me up on the deal. I guess they figure if its free it must not be any good.

Scroll back up to the part of my first post. The words read "I am new here but I can offer some suggestions." and then " My sister farms dryland wheat (12000 acres) in the middle of the prairie here in CO...she has pds. lots of pds." That'd be my first clue. Suggesting that there are prairie dogs available to shoot. Offer or statement, call it what you will.....the price is right.

I used an outfitter for this in Montana a few years back. He and the hunting were SUPERB! (I shot 253 times in one day) I flew in and took 2 rifles. If you are interested I will find his card.
Price was very good too

We usually plan for about 400 rds. for a day and a half of shooting. I go Friday night shoot all day Sat and half of Sunday and come home. Two guys from KC came out and shot for three days and used 3000 rds. 8 rifles.

I really scored several years back when my older sister married a dryland wheat farmer out on the eastern plains of CO. He's a great guy and he farms 12,000 acres and gives me access to a whole lot more land to hunt. Alot of those places have pastures loaded with prairie dogs. I never have trouble finding good places to shoot them. I try to go 8-10 times a year and even manage to shoot a few during deer and antelope seasons.
They are due east to the state line.

Raised in Greeley for 14 years. If you are looking for places to shoot in that area I got a couple that look real good.

the last time I was there, there was a ban on shooting west of highway 25 or maybe it was east. I don't remember now as it's been about 7 years. Anyways I would love to go again if things can get a little better economy wise.

We have a group of 4 guys that go on a prairie dog hunt every year. We have been going to SW OK. Not a whole lot of shooting, but it is fun. Give me the name of a town close to where your sister lives so I can check out some places to stay close to there. We are more that willing to pay for the priviledge to hunt there. Waiting for reply.
