Sub-sonic .22 any yotes

find a good pcp 25 cal or 9mm air rifle they work at that range and wont disturb your neighbor, high dollar but quiet and effective, or as others say a bow. wish i could still pull my bow back old age and back problem left my bow hanging on the wall, its a lefty PSE 70# if anyone needs a decent bow cheap. fiber sights balance weight and all, sorry Moderatators i know its not the retail section.

use a long gun/bolt smaller cal and a suppressor 1 shot and being from orleans and hunting season around the coner they won't think twice about the sound of an gun blast while they are indoors .....just throwing out a thought.

Depends on your States laws and regs, in KS crossbows are legal for everyone for certain animals, I think Coyotes being one of them, I'll have to find my regs summary and get back with 100% certainty.

Legal ? I don't think legal anything is involved with shooting as close to
houses as I think he has in mind. I know it wouldn't stop me anyway.

Without getting into how close he's shooting to houses ( I dont wanna know), purely oin the subject of wether or not a crossbow is legal equipment...period, in Kansas you can legally use a crossbow for rabbits squirrels and 'yotes. I'll live in the ignorant bliss that he is following proper safety protocol and not shooting to close to houses or other buildings.
As for your case, if memory serves you live in a rural area and dont have neighbors close enogh to affect so any building you hit is yours anyhow. I personally think that the practice of taking a coyote would prove to be a pretty decent challenge and I hope he nails the lil sucker.

I've been known to use sub-sonics on a real quiet gun.

Don't think I've hit any buildings yet. Keyword is yet.

I'd try to sell the idea of controlling the coyote population with you neighbors, then take them down cleanly with something with more assurance than that subsonic. I've bagged a couple myself but only out of necessity.

Let me explain my use of sub-sonics and the quieted .22 rifle.
We've been battle large packs of wild dogs for 3 or so years now.
They will normally scatter at the first gun shot and you may only
get 1 then. With the "quiet", you can generally get 3 or 4 shots
and hopefully kills before they figure it out and scatter. The shots
are usually 50 yards or less. I've been using Aquilla Sniper sub-sonics
that have 60 grains of lead on them. Work pretty good but you really
need close up shots. The closer the better. Just above and just behind
the ear opening is a very sweet spot. With the quieted rifle and those
sub-sonics, a human won't hear the sound past 30 feet away.

For longer shots and if I don't care about the noise, I use a .223
with 55 grain hp.

Thanks for the responses guys, Ive been reading along. The houses are pretty close in the neighborhood I live in but I live on the outside "border" of it. I have a great back drop with nothing but a field and woods behind me. I havent made any attempts yet, still looking for a call. Now that the cooler weather is here Im gonna try soon. Its gonna be a neat experience. Looking over my fence with a cup of coffee and my .22. If I cant get them close enough I will let them go and try a different setup. Now that there is a North wind blowing I dont have to worry about my scent.

You just want to kill the 'yote" right? Shoot him with anything, sub sonic, "good" air rifle, etc. he will go off and die somewhere. The new way to shoot wolves around here ( they are protected) is shoot them in the hind leg, they will run off and starve as they are no longer able to kill deer or elk.

I have shot ONE Coyote with an old Marlin Model 25 using Remington Sub Sonic Hollow Points. I too was in a situation in which quiet was mandatory. I waited and waited until everything was perfect. I placed a single Remington Sub Sonic Hollow Point (shooting from a good rested postion) right between the eyes of a Coyote at 40 yards. The Coyote dropped at the shot and never so much as twitched it's tail.

That is the one and only time I ever even attempted to shoot a coyote with a .22 LR. I have hunted / called Coyotes for many years. The one thing I have learned is pound for pound Coyotes are TOUGH critters. I have seen Coyotes hit the ground only to get up and take off like nothing was wrong with marginal hits with some cennterfire cartridges.

I have the utmost respect for a Coyote. Hunting them one on one or calling them is a challange to be sure. I strongly suggest using enough gun for the task as even a Coyote desirves to be dispatched humanely.

With all that said, in your situation if you have the patients to wait for the perfect shot and can make that perfect shot buy all means give it a go. Some times a person has to do what a person has to do.

Amen, brother Samuel.

I've shot a moving possum from 10yds with a .22 Short, and he was deader than a Kennedy.

A .22 short moves so slow you can practically just step out of the way...but through the left ear and out the right eye, and someone is gonna have to go CSI on the mess.

Same thing is gonna happen if you drill a 'yote at 50yds with a .22LR...just make sure it's in the ear and out the eye.

What it boils down to is simply this...can you drill him in the head at 50yds with your .22? If you can, cap his furry little head and call it a night. If not, call animal control.

my first coyote kill was with a Marlin model 60 with cheap Remington ammo. I think the distance was between 50 -75 yds. It didn't go far after being hit. My neighbor up in Reno used to shoot stray cats with a little papoose or cricket 22 and the 60gr sub sonic aguilla rounds. He would get a complete pass through on the majority of them.

just use a Mosin Nagant... the sound is so loud and encompassing the neighbors won't know where in the he** the noise came from... other than a fighter jet passing through the sound barrier 100 yds directly overhead. A bonus is that if you patiently wait until 4 or 5 yotes are lined up, you'll kill em all with only on 20-cent bullet.

p.s.- got this yote with a .22 Rem subsonic neck shot at 25 yds; he ran about the same & dropped dead.
