| Sub-sonic .22 any yotes
Will a Sub-sonic .22 take out a yote @ 50 yards? Ive encountered 2 of them behind my fence. I on the edge of a neighborhood so I dont want to disturb my neighbors. I will be using Remington sub-sonic hallow points. Also, should I shoot for the head or vitals? Thanks in advance.

Dont do it! hyper velocity .22lr is not enough at 50yds. Your talking more like 22wmr and .17hmr range. If you are that close to others just have animal control come out and trap them. You dont need a wounded coyote running around, that will just make them more of an issue. Do it right or dont do it at all.

Good point... I never intended to use them unless others on here had success with them. Thanks for your help.

huuuhhhha ha ha ha.. pecka has your old avitar pic Z28monster... thats funny but... whats not funny is shooting a coyote with an undersized round. sure they may get lucky and kill it, but chances are it will suffer pretty bad before it dies Put some damn lead in its head... NOT a BB in its behind!

if you only have 2-3 neighbors i'd just ask them if it is cool you prune some of them out cause you have pets. I am sure they would have the same feelings as you. If you dont know them well enough then I would say just call animal control.

I grew up on a farm, only gun we had was an old .22. Lots and lots of coyotes were killed with it out to 100 yards. I'm big on shot placement and they never go far after being hit. And yes, I've used .22 sub-sonics on a few. 50 yards would be the max distance for that. Why sub-sonics ? Well, I was shooting packs of wild dogs and they would take off at the sound of a normal shot. .22 Sub-sonics were quieter and then I quieted down the gun a bit more. Worked fine for what I needed and the times I needed it. I can't find the box right now but Aquilla (spelling) makes some sub-sonic .22's that have a 60 grain bullet on them. They are very slow and will tumble but they work well. 50 yards would be pushing them to the max. Quick kill shot on a coyote or other canine would be just above and behind the ear. And I rarely shoot if I can't get that real quick kill. All that being said, I usually use a .223 on coyotes or wild dogs now. But I still have that old .22. Made in 1917. Acurrate as you could ever want. Randy | |

if you put one in his ear hole at 50 yards i guarantee that yote would drop straight down. if you can't put one in the head i wouldn't try at all.

Can't say anything about sub-sonic. But I have take a few yotes with .22lr standard val. no more then 75 yards head shots mostly. Took one at about 45 to 50 yards with a shot to the chest area. It was faced directly at me, not quartering.

The warnings against using a .22rf for coyotes are from people that can't shoot very good to people that can't shoot very good. ,,,sam.

Youd be better off buying your self a bigger gun something as simple as a .223 or a .204 or somthing, If your ganna kill it then kill it dont wound it.
