| Freedom Bird.
waiting to get on the plane, climbing the steps, getting seated no one even took notice of the pretty "round eye" stewardess. waiting in the planes aisle as seats are taken, no assigned seating no sitting with a buddy, i got lucky and got a window seat. flight crew closed the door the whine of four jet engines, and not a sound out of us. racing down the runway at a preconcevied point suddenly we lifted off, wheels breaking free of the ground. immediatly a spontanious raucous cheer broke our silence, we we're on or way to "the world". most slept through the trip, catching up on missing "ZZZ's" or preoccupied thought. then i saw it, a Chi/Com Mig just off our left wing, murmoring, occasional cuss word, "!!!! survived Nam, to be shot down over the South China Sea". after what seemed like an eternity the Mig pilot broke off. finally arrived at Tacoma airport, upon touching down, another great cheer. |

Took the Freedom Bird out of Okinawa 1986. (747) It was a joyous moment. Come to think of it, a Marine bought me beer all the way to Alaska. Semper Fi! We had a short calender we filled out with steps leading to the door of the plane. Thanks for a great memorie!

don't know how close we were to Chi/Com air space or if we were at all. if we did get shot down, you still would find a straight man for your lame attempts at humor |
