Law Enforcement

Why are so many law enforcement agencies on the side of the anti-gun agenda?

I'm not. You can go to the forums at officer.com and see that when the subject of the AWB comes up a vast majority of the officers are against it and think it is the most stupid thing in the world.

That's good news! Too bad all we ever see are police chiefs and official law enforcement positions consistently favoring agressive anti-gun legislation. It's a shame that the official positions of law enforcement agencies are so vehemently anti-gun. If only you individual officers could make your positions known to your superiors. I know policemen and retired policemen will ALWAYS have the right to own a firearm. Why not let your superiors know that us ordinary citizens want the SAME rights?!

Currently, many law enforcement agencies favor the McCarthy bill that would effectively eliminate private ownership of semi-automatic rifles. (In fact, I've never seen a police chief or law enforcement agency denouncing ANY anti-gun bill.) That's ridiculous and scary.

Most of those figures are some lefthanded city or something. Like the Police chief in say San Fran or Portland Or. or some left handed assoc. type like Int. Chief of Police. If you could ask the run of the mill LEO of any type or jurisdiction you would find a whole differenct perspective. We just need to enforce the laws we have and put these violent felons behind bars for thier whole sentcence no good behavior stuff.

If guns are outlawed only Outlaws will have guns

I don't know Rooster. The link below shows police chiefs and law enforcement agencies in middle America vehemently oppose private firearms ownership also. This is always what I see when it comes to official police positions on ordinary citizens owning firearms.

I read the article, as you can see it is a press release from an Anti-Gun Group . If I were paying for it, I'd have it say what I want too! We only read what is put out and you should have a second opinion. Hopefully the NRA or some organazation will put an opposeing view out. Its always the chief and never the indians quoted in these articles. BTW don't fool yourself if guns are outlawed, retired LEO ain't gonna mean squat when they come to pick up your collection.

I do agree with the NRA about just enforceing the laws we have and the bad guys get some time off the street would make things more safe. Sometimes as an LEO you just wonder how the states attorneys / ausa can give someone a pass on a crime. They look for an excuse to let someone go - bigger fish to fry, below the threshold for prosecution etc etc.

That article reads like a piece of propaganda to me. I wouldn't put much weight in what it says as actually being factual.

You know, the article does appear like anti-gun propaganda but that's what I always see presented by the media. I know I can't blame all law enforcement personnel but it would be nice if the rank and file officers let their opinions be known to the media. I know that's hard to do and I wouldn't want any officers to get in trouble for going against their superiors.

I just don't like the way anti-gun groups seem to have a strangle hold on official police positions when it comes to 2nd amendment issues.

The big draw back is that in general the rank and file are not permitted to make statements to the media. The majority is once again silenced. The "brass," who decide who and what will be said to the media are a very small percentage of a department. The only views they will express to the media tend to support their respective governing body ie: City Hall/County Commissioners Court etc.
