| I think that they are much more comfortable that the old BDU's. No more having to starch your uniform is worth it to me, and the new collar is great! You don't have that darn top button digging a hole into your chest when you were body armour. I also like the set up of the pockets on the unform too. As far as the new Air Force BDU goes, it looks like a Smurf threw up on it. Those Zoomie's may have the best chow in the service, but those uniforms are awful. |

| I haven't seen it really up close or in person yet. I think it looks ok I guess (I will make an official call after I see it in person). I have some questions about it though. Whats with the velcro for the patches? I think that it looks tacky and won't hold patchs on in the field. Also, I would think that would attract a bunch of lint/dirt (not a big deal in combat, but probably a pain in the arse at other times). Are the pockets (and I guess the 'fly') zippered or velcro? I know its one of the two. What was wrong with (quiet) buttons? Is there only one color pattern? I know the MarPat comes in a woodland and a desert. I have only seen desert (and I guess it could be urban too) colored ACUs. If thats the only color, good thing we are staying busy in the middle east.

| There is supposed to be three different versions of it. Greenfor woodland, tan for desert, and grey for urban. So for the only one I've been issued is the grey one. Yes, all of the pockets are velcro, and all of the patches, name tapes and skill badges are velcro backed, but the top has a zipper reinforced with velcro for a flat surface while wearing armour. The pants also have a zipper fly. The old BDU's had a button fly, which was bad in jungle enviorment while wading waist deep across a creek. It allowed leechs to get in and feast on your "danglers". |

| Yes the new ACU's have zipper flys. Anyone who has worn BDU's in the winter time has gotten that nasty crossbreeze that seems to find its way in between the 4 buttons on the fly. In fact it was not uncommon to have to stick your finger in your butt and hollar "snake!!!" just to scare it out to make sure your little soldier was still there. |

| militaryphoto.net has several threads on the new army uniform and the daily picture threads usually have some photos of the new uniform in Iraq/A-stan. It looks like it blends in well at a distance. |

| I'm not thrilled by the new camo at all. The article I saw recently showed troops wearing the new camo uniform with OD Green webgear and desert tan boots. They looked like third worlders wearing Uncle Sam's hand-me-downs. I'll give 'em time to prove themselves in combat - but they suck as far as looks - very unprofessional. One reason I went Navy - blue denim dungarees and blue chambray shirts always look good. As my old Senior Chief said, "The US Navy - 200 years of tradition unmarred by progress!" :cheer:

| I personally think it is just a cheap attempt by the ARMY to copy a design popularized by the USMC, as well as I think the color scheme is just terrible for the woodland digicam, the desert is an improvement but still pails in comparison to the Marpat design.

| Rodney, the USMC camo pattern, MARPAT, is a copy of the canadian camo pattern CADPAT. THe Canadian military created the digital pattern. Both the Marines and Army use the pattern under license from the Canadian government. |

| We're getting ideas from the Canadians on how to dress for combat?? Next you'll be telling me we're getting ideas from the French on how to fight a war!! Editor's Note: No real disrespect ment to the Canadians. -UR

| At the range today, a young man showed up who was home on leave from the Marines. He was wearing his new Marpat for hunting, says it works well. I like it! Very sharp, not as baggy as the old BDUs, and looks like it would work very well in our green&brown winter forest. The Army needs to adopt Marpat, instead of going their own way.

| The MarPat is actually copyrighted by the Marine Corp. If you look real close at the MarPat pattern, there is the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor in it. This characteristic is unique to authentic MarPat BDU's. |

| Big Dog, The Army did request to use MARPAT and were told to forget it in less than polite terms. Our MARPAT uniforms have the EGA as has been mentioned and only USMC is allowed them. |
