Our guys aren't the coffee sippin' boat riders. I wasn't around in the 80's but I would be willing to bet that the guys nowadays are no more "wimpy" than they were then.

My brother is an engineer, he's over here too. He is the right man for the job. Brave or stupid, pick one!

I never heard of 'Bees and Marines getting into it with each other. It was usually a combined force operation against someone else, because we were always in the minority. When I was at Holy LOch, we got told to vacate the EM club, as there weren't enough tables for all the submarine jocks. There were six Seabees, and six Marines, and we ended up closing the place down, just on principle. Never an altercation. I guess they didn't want to tangle with guys who eat their glasses, when the drinks are gone! And this is by no means meant to offend anyone! I had a friend from one of the fast attack boats, who thought it was pretty funny that we managed to get out with whole skins! We were outnumbered by at least six to one. Maybe they admired our brave and brazen stupidity!

Scotty As far as I can remember any contact I ever had with Seabees and they were with us as was the Navy Corpsmen and I know we didn't allow no one to mess with our Corpsmen and I never worked with the C.B.s, the ones I saw were with Marines or near Marines.

The 2 young marines were breaking some chairs etc. The Chief took great pride in the Crow's Nest. I don't blame him. My own personal opinion is it had nothing to do with Navy/Marines. I think he just seen a cople of unruly kids tearing his club up.

That is so funny Scotty. I went out with my Chief in downtown Manama, Bahrain one night. We were at a restaraunt and got invited to sit at a table full of British ex-pat's, something like 8 wimmens and two guys. Out of the blue, Cheif thought it would impress to bite the gobblet that had his water in it. So he proceeds to start taking chunks out of the glass. He was a little passed his limit and out of his element. However, while the initial reaction from the femmes was disgust they later warmed up to the "daft" (as they called it) ways. Guess who got some nookie that night. Bahrain is crawling with Brit wimmens, easy pickens. BTW, alot of good Marines I've met in Bahrain. FAST platoon guys. Mostly CPL. and below and they're kept on a tight leash since people love to sensationalize on Marine misdeads and being an Arab state they aren't taking chances. The GySgt's like to party though. You guys do know that the Marines are going to shift a sizeable number of their assets from Oki to Guam by 2010? The 'bee's have alot of work ahead of them in Guam prepping the old NCTMS? ?"Nictams"? site up by Anderson AFB. My guess is the main focus in Oki for the Marines will remain Camp Foster and the NTA, everything else, buh-by. Last edited by Seabee74; 06-03-2008 at 02:17 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Isn't combat engineer kind of a pardox, the only thing I saw them do was try to blow up bridges and we in naval intelligence (another paradox) still had to call in looney wingnut to take it out after he flew under the damn thing The fist thing I learned in the Navy was don't mess with the guy that has stripes fom his shoulder to his wrist (Master Chief) and the cooks, piss one of them off and you're in deep caca Any Blue noses out there ? Never got to cross the equator though

Jersey When I was an MP, (TAD from Station Weapons) I observed a Squid leaving the Staff NCO club at about 0200. He ran a Stop sign and then another and then a Red light, so I put on my Red light and started to pursue him, he commence to run at least 4 more Stop signs and a couple of more Red lights. I pulled right in behind him at the barracks and he got out and started to walk inside. I yelled at him and called a back up. we then issued him a ticket for multiple offenses. About a month later I received a Blue IBM Card in my Mailbox stating that My shot records were missing and I was going to have them again, including OVERSEAS SHOTS. Right then, I learned that DO NOT GIVE TICKETS TO SQUIDS WHO WORK IN SICK BAY, OR DISPERSING. I limped for at least a week and couldn't move either arm. |

Marvin Shields was the first, and only Seabee to receive the Medal of Honor. The camp is named after him, as was a destroyer, now decommisioned. That young man went with the SF AOIC to destroy an NVA machine gun, and was hit by 51 caliber gunfire on th e return trip. But they took the gun out. Both received the MOH, but unfortunately, Marvin's wife and kids were the recipients, as he didn't make it back. It's a story of extreme heroism, for all the SF and Seabee personnel involved. They held off 2000 plus NVA regulars for almost two days, and thirteen survived. The battle started with nineteen Americans, and under 100 civil defence forces, against overwhelming odds. And the NVA did everything they could to overrun the camp, but they were unable to finish the job, due to the tenacity of the Americans.
