I got my pre- retirement package in this weekend. The usual. "Hey congrats your getting close, blah blah blah" Oh, and by the way, the SSB (special seperation bonus) you drew from 10 years of active duty. We'll be taking that back when you start collecting your checks. When you get a Guard retirement you don't collect 'till 60 yrs of age. I would have felt lucky to live that long. Now, uncle sugar gets the checks for the first couple of years. I'm a meticulous record keeper. I have every scrap of paper since I joined in '84. I couldn't get a paper trail on this SSB thing to save my skin. How could I let this get by? Beats me. If your in the Guard and eligable for retirement and drew SSB or VSI look out! |

That probably is about right, I know that if I were to participate in any active drill i.e. reserves Uncle Sam would deduct those active days from the VSI/SSB check. I am sure it falls under the ol' double dip rule.

Not too bad when you know the rules. The decemination of information has come a long way. When I drew SSB in 94 there wasn't even an internet to speak of. Now all you have to do is pull something up and find out what end of the crappy stick you will get. LOL Oh well, may as well smile about it
