Red Diamond Field at Ft Jackson was so named in honor of my old outfit, the 5th Infantry Division. The 61st Inf Regiment was part of the 5th for many years, I believe they are the cadre for basic training there now.
And yes, the motto of the 61st - "Semper Fidelis" - pre-dates the USMC use of that phrase by 20 years or more.
Hooahh!!!

Veteran:

A veteran is someone who, at one point in one's life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
