Hey Seabeescotty maby you or Privateer remember that old Bosun who retired back in the early 80 who had 50 years in and if im not mistaken didnt they have a special rating for him like a senior master chief one of two sorta like commodores...Well I didnt make Subic or any one of those
really fine ports o call but did unitas 18 in 77 and went to the good old USSR and finaled out in the PG before it went to SIMA Mayport. Sure miss

I think he ended up a CWO5, and that was a special rank at the time. The old fart looked good for his retirement! Some of the services now have CWO5, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, he was one salty ole dog!

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead anyone. I WAS NOT a drill sergeant, but ours made us yell stuff like "More PT, Drill Sergeant" after doing 50 or so push ups. Or "RA All The Way Drill Sergeant" about a mile and a half into a one mile run. When I was in there was still the draft, and we still had serial numbers instead of social security numbers. Numbers started with US for draftees, volunteers started with RA. Draftees did 2 years, RA's did 3.

I got an early out because Nam was my last duty station and if you had less than a certain number of days left they let you go when you got back to the states. So we wouldn't infect the cherry boys with our bad attitudes, I guess. I did 2 years, 9 months, and 28 days, but who's counting?
