Extractor Issue

Anyone knowing the correct dissassembly and reassembly of a P.38's extractor please let me know how to do it. It appears to me that the extractor stud must be pressed down with a probe while rotating the extractor out, but I don't want to try too hard in case something gets damaged in the process. Am I on the right track?

The need for this is because my extractor does not appear to be closing tightly, and drops shells after partial extraction. I need access to the back of the extractor to see if there is an obstruction or need for cleaning there.

Yes you are on the right track. You'll need to compress the plunger and spring and then lift the extractor out. If you have access to a Makarov cleaning rod with the extractor removal tip on it it will work like it was made for the P'38...
