Bulk Lead is easy. Go to your local range on a Range Cleaning Day when they are ready to clear the backstop. Bring a metal detector, shovel & fishnet.

andrew cochran: At any ?tire? shop; and ask for the old wheel weights; might need 5 gallon buckets; and the mess is heavy. You may need to go to several to find one that will assuming you are starting from ''scratch''

Yeah already tried the tireshops. They would sell me some, but not give me any. Maybe that range idea is a good one!

Lead tire weights are beginning to be replaced with non-lead types. Get 'em if you can find 'em! Also, check with roofers - lead flashing is used, and sometimes they have bits & pieces left over. I'm onto a source now, but it'll be a little while til he has them ready for me. If you find an estate sale, hope the old boy was an avid fisherman - lead sinkers are a good source. You get them for a low bid. I'm also trying to talk my Dad out of his old mullet fishing net - he's too old to fish, and the net ban killed it anyways. 600 yards of net = a lot of weighted line = a lot of lead!

My dad has a 10" round 12 foot long lead pipe in his barn. Won't let me have it. In 1995 I sold his lead colection form years of collecting (not the pipe though). He had over 2000 pounds with almost 1000 of it being Babbitt !

andrew, I'll check around and see if i can find some tire weights for ya, the lead ones....we used to make large lead weights for snag fishing from them....but i think i can prolly get a 5 gallon bucket a week, plenty of bullets-worth....dunno what I'd do about sending them to ya tho....maybe melt them down into a slab that'll fit the "flat-rate" package. All I'd want is shipping for them....tips appreciated(gas ain't free unfortunately)
