| 1927 or earlier M91
hello, i'm looking for the above gun with all numbers matching and in decent->good condition. no cracks in the stuck but the finish can be lousy. good bluing is preferred but not necessary. orginal M91 sights preferred but M91/30 sights acceptable. here's the catch - i don't have my C&R yet so for now i'll have to drive to you to purchase/pickup. my understanding of the law is that i can buy from someone in my own state, which is TN. i'm willing to drive anywhere in the state to pickup. *IF I'M WRONG ABOUT THE LAW PLEASE CORRECT ME!* if you have one but are not in TN but also willing to wait, i'm probably going to apply for my C&R soonish and will most likely have my license by some time in November - i'm pretty sure i've convinced my wife to let me get one another possibility is that if you're a license holder you could make a transfer to my local gunshop and then i could pick it up. yet another possibility is that if you have one with an antique receiver (pre 1899) you can ship it to me no problem. many thanks! |

| Vinny my boy, why do you think it's called the Model 1891? As far as I recall, the earliest production of M-Ns was in Chatellerault in that year because the three Russian arsenals got off to a slow start on the new design. And if anyone had one with a pre-1891 year stamped on it, it would be a priceless prototype in all likelihood and you'd never get it out of their hands!

i'm confused, 1891 is 8 years before 1899, so what's the problem? if the receiver was recycled and put into a new gun in, say, the WW1 era, it'd be pre 1927 like i specified but it would not have nearly the value of an actual original antique. that all sounds reasonable to me...

My bad, Vinny. I thought you said 1889.

i'm replying to this because i wanted to edit my subject but can't - in the body of my original post i do say that i'd take one with 91/30 sights, but since they are sometimes just called 91/30s (millwright e.g. has a 1927 M91/30) i was going to add that to the subject line. any help from moderators? |
