New Vanguard

Yes it is mine now. No I didn't need it, but I wanted it. It is a Vanguard .270 Win. Took the Simmons scope off of another one of my rifles till I get one specifically for this rifle. Don't know what variety I want on it yet. Going to play around with it tomorrow with a few different types of ammo and see what it likes best.

I've got a Vanguard sporter .270 Win with a 3X9X40 Zeiss conquest w/600 rapid-z reticle and it works perfectly for a 130 grain bullet. Zero is 200 yards and the yardage hash lines are on the money. This combination rivals some other much more expensive rifle / scope combinations in my safe. I did free float the barrel and adjusted the trigger to be light, it came with a crisp break just a little heavy pull for me.
I've got a couple of the Nikon Monarchs and they have good optics, several Leupold that are good scopes. But unless something changes I'm stuck on Zeiss for now.

Local Wal Mart has a Vanguard on sale for $350 right now. I was seriously tempted to get it, but it's chambered in 300 Wthby and I can't afford the $4 a shot for that! Might as well get a 50 BMG and just pay an extra buck per cartridge!

You're right about that. I picked up a nice used 300 Win mag not long ago. But I had checked to see what ammo was going to cost first. I noticed the Weatherby magnum stuff was high as a kite. The added fps isn't worth the up-charge IMO. Good call on your part, keep looking something will come around.

Went back and looked again today. The guy told me they have one in the back in 30-06, but I'm with ChaZam, and would rather have a .270

.270 is a great choice. Get what you want or you'll never be satisfied, my problem is I want them all. Trust me when I tell you that .300 Win mag is a beast, way more rifle than anything I'm likely to hunt for. Vanguards are a real bargain, major bang for your buck.
