| weatherby centurion shotgun
I have an opportunity to buy a beautiful centurion with 2 barrels. It's lack of choke tubes and only being a 2 3/4 chamber has everybody passing it up. would this shotgun be reliable? does anyone have experience with them? |

If it carries Weatherby's name you can count on it being reliable. What will it cost you?

It's a steal at $250. However it's a pre Nikko 1972 a prefix, which had issues with the action bar cracking. This one is fine right now.

Go to Midway USA and the like and see if chokes are available for the shotgun. You may luck out and other manufacturers chokes work in it that are readlily available. Best of Luck ...A.H

O.K. it has built in chokes. Most every shotgun you buy today handles 2 & 3/4 and 3'' mag loads. I'd almost bet more people shoot or hunt with 2 & 3/4 shells unless there duck or turkey hunters. My Step Father has killed more ducks and turkeys than you can count with 2 & 3/4 loads. I don't see why the shotgun not being able to shoot 3'' magnums is an issue. I see it as getting a bargain. Take time and go look at ammo manufacture sites and you'll find some very very potent 2 & 3/4 shotgun shells for every kind of shooting and hunting. If you want the shotgun buy it and don't look back. Even if it were able to shoot 3'' magnums you would get your belly full of getting hammered by them.

I have a Weatherby SA-08 from back when it only came in 2 3/4 chamber, and I hunt pheasant, duck, and geese with it no problem. In fact after growing up with that gun (had it since I was 13), I cringe after firing off a 3 inch magnum in a non-semi.
