When i load rounds into the magazine of my 30-30 the round will go into the magazine but then shoot backwards once the door is out of the way. An older friend of mine thought that was normal and you just push the round in the magazine with another round and repeat until the magazine is full. This does work but it is a pain as you constantly have to have one round behind the other. Is this true? Or is there a part i need to replace? My rifle is a pre-64. Made in 1956
I push one in as far as is convenient, which doesn't get the cartridge head behind the gate. I use the next cartridge to push it on thru until I get to the last one and then I use my pinky finger to push it past the gate.

That's about how I load the mag of my 1975 model 94, too. Mainly, don't force the bullet in jammed. Take your time to push it in the firing chamber completely.
