Win Mod 100 Manual

I'm new to the site, but it appears there's need for a Model 100 manual. To answer the question of disassembly; After sling screw and screw behind triggerguard are removed, remove the clip, hold the barrel/forearm with one hand, draw back the slide with the other, than force the barrel up from the forearm. Three hands would help. Found this site looking for large magazines for my "defense rifle" M 100. Fired 12 rounds since I bought it new back in the 60's. Good luck with the disassembly.

Winchester 100 .308

My father bought this gun from the Sears catalog in Missouri for $160 in the early 60's. When he passed on I got this gun and it is in new condition. He put a weaver 2.5 power scope on and this gun is extremely accurate. I also wanted a large capacity mag but they are impossible to find. It would make an excellent hunting rifle for any kind of game or maybe perfect for a sniper rifle as well. For rapid fire...I bought an AR-15. Smaller bullet but accurate and deadly.

Good morning guys:

New member to this forum and stumbled across this post. I have owned my winchester model 100 for some time and it is my favorite deer rifle, short, quick to point, beautiful to the eye, and purrfect for the Michigan woods and swamps I venison hunt in.

Unfortunatly, as one american gun writer so eloquently put it, "The Winchester Model 100 .308 brings new levels of inaccuracy to the american shooting public!".

Such that is it is, with the best accuracy I have obtained being 6 to 8 inches at a hundred yards, my favorite rifle has not accompanied me to some of my more open blinds where a 200 yard or farther shot may present itself. Therefore, if anyone has a model 100 that will group its shots better then mine will, would you please let me know what ammo or handloads you are using. Also, please inform me if you are getting basketball size groups too so I will be sure that this "high" level of accuracy is inherent and to be expected to this model of gun.

Regards,
Cranky

found this while trying to find a way to break down my bolt so i could replace the firing pin in it. still trying to find a way to replace the pin, but eh. at least this is an easy step by step way of breaking it down for cleaning properly.

Yes 10 round Coyler clips for M100 were sold in Aussie, they did not hold too well, they would drop out just when you started to get amoungst a mob of grunters. So I had a Gunsmith Silver solder a pair of factory clips together, one set held 9 the other 8 rounds and no drop outs in fast shooting. My M100 was bored out in Aussie into .358 W a great pig wopper.A great pitty when I had to hand it in at the Buy Back. It was sliced in half by Guilotine. It never missed a beat, and I never fitted the replacement fireing pin. I remember writing to Winchester re 10 round Mags. They made them but only sold to Police at this time, cheers from Down Under.

Cranky, man I think you should try to tighten that screw on the forearm and shoot it again. I cannot imagine groups that bad with my model 100 .308 Also, check the crown and use some compound and a marble on it and smooth it up. Some bedding of the barrel and action may be needed as well as something is not right!

thats odd, i guess some rifles are different though. i just got an old model 100 in 308 yesterday and can hold a 2 inch group at 200 yards. at closer ranges it cuts holes. i love the gun though, just feels like a mans gun.
i am new on this as well.

100 cleaning and maintenince?

I took my .308 win. 100 completely apart last night and gave it the extreme clean. I had a little trouble with the re-assembly but it was due to ignorance. I didn't have the pin through the trigger assembly but just had it through the barrel assembly.the trigger assy. wasnt' connected to the barrel and gas tube assembly.they wont go together like that. I figured it out. Really in all, they are not bad at all to strip. It had been many years since that old gun has been cleaned out on the inside, i hope it shoots as great as it did before. We will find out soon!

Can anyone tell me the best way to maintain my 100? I have heard dont drop oil in the gas tube, but i have also heard i should. Any tips and tricks out there??

still accurate. 2 shots cut each other and the 3rd was about a quarter inch left of those 2.

I don't recommend putting oil in the gas system anywhere. Gas from a discharged cartridge is dirty, the oil will collect that dirt and may result in a poorly functional system.
