Need help with 1897 Winchester

My friend just brought this over. He told me: Ohhh ya, its a old piece of junk 12 gauge.... It got me thinking

I knew you would all want to a picture, so here goes.....

I didnt get the picture but a 97 is a real collectors item. sam.

despite the minor surface rust on it, as long as your friend also has the front half, that shotgun is no piece of junk.

Yep, its all there.....Minus one small broke part. I think it might be part of the extractor, not sure though....

So, should I clean the rust off and make it look a little pretty again, or just leave it???

I would oil it down and wipe it clean and leave it alone but Leftyo is more of an authority on this rhan me.(others are too) sam.

Maybe you guys know more about this? Its a choke and its adjustable. Anyone ever see these before?

I figured out how to take it apart and got it all back together working MUCH better

One problem I had with mine, after I took it apart and cleaned it, was that the ejector was broken. I had to pick one up from Numrich Arms. Took less than 2 minutes to change it out, and it works great now. I think this is a part prone to failure, so you may want to pick one up just to have. Mine was a 30" barrel, with full choke, but sometime in the life of the gun, it was shortened to about 22". No more choke, so it's pretty much a scatter gun now. Fun to shoot. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the tip! I cycled some empty rounds through it and it wasn't ejecting very well so mine must be broken too! I'm not too sure on which part it is exactly, could you tell me the part number of the one you got to fix yours? Thanks!

If you look on the pic of mine, loosen the upper screw in that picture. The ejector spring inserts into the hole to the right of the screw hole.
