I just traded a 94 (made in 1919) in original condition with about 40% bluing remaining, clean wood, nothing missing for a like new DPMS LR-380 heavy barrel stainless 24" (gun of the year 3 years in a row) with a snippier scope 6x24x50 and 1000 rounds of .308 ammo. Straight across. This puts my Winchester I traded about at the fifteen to seventeen hundred dollar range. Personally, I think I came out well in the trade. I purchased the Winchester 15 years ago for two hundred dollars. The ammo today costs twice that and some. Miss my Winchester some, but not that much. Still have several of them. Want to sell your gun high? Put it at a large estate auction with lots of old people bidding on abut 100 different guns. Sky is the limit.

If it is a genuine Trench Gun it is valued at $1500.at 80%,$1200 at 70%,and $1000.at 60% in the bluebook. But there are variables and if you could post pictures, especially any stamps or markings,I bet Mooseman could tell you exactly what market value is. ,,,sam.

Cowboy shooters have driven the pricing up on M97 shotguns to some degree.I sold a plain field grade 12 guage about 2 months ago, little finish, stock a little beat up,shootable condition for $475.You'll not find a genuine Trench Gun at anything close to Blue book Values and fakes abound. One in 80% condition would be closer to $2500+.The prices on a lot of those internet sights mean absolutely nothing if they don't sell.If you watch them, many never receive a bid. It's kind of an "Antiques Road Show"syndrome,I got one about like that must be worth the same, when comparing a gun in 10% condition to one in 90%.On collector type guns a 5% drop in condition may drop the value 30 to 50%.A gun has two prices, what it's worth and what you can get out of it,they are not always the same. The area of the country you are in also makes a difference as to what people will pay.Trying to price a gun without having it in your hands is like asking "how much is my car worth"without seeing the car.

Need to know if it is marked "WB" or "GHD" and if it has 6 rows of holes or 4 rows of holes in the handguard. How is the blueing ? Rich

If it is a 12 ga. field grade standard 1897 it is by your description worth about 300 to 400 Dollars. Condition is the prime question here and if was in better shape , it would be worth maybe double that.. If it is a 16 ga 2-3/4 inch then add another 50% to the price ! Rich

| Yes, as a whole, IT IS. But like anything else, when you have and get many DIFFERENT personalities, and opinions, together in one place, things can tend to get a tad, well, testy at times. What makes it great, most here know this and things for the most part are forgotten.

John, your 1897 might be worth about $200. most of thses 1897's are worn, no blueing left, scratches on stock, etc. if it has all blueing and nice wood on stock it might go $300+

A word of caution to all Winchester 1897 owners. If the gun has seen a lot of use, or handling with the action opened and closed repeatedly, the slide, frame rails and hammer experience wear. It's recommended a gunsmith check the firearm for safety. Those with excessive wear on the three components listed above have been known to slamfire. It seems that if enough metal has worn the hammer can drop as the bolt is shifted forward to the battery position. Just a precaution to have them checked if you're unsure.

I was trying to figure the value of my mod 97 when I ran across these posts. Not to bring up old disscussions but, I'm a little confused. Mine is a 16 gauge chambered for 2 3/4 shells. Its been reblued, the stock has a small chip on bottom of the butt. Serial # says made in 1908. The delima I have is earlier a post said no Black Diamond Grades made in 16 gauge but mine says "Trap Gun" on the bolt and has a black diamond on both sides of the stock.
