I think this is a good deal, Winchester 94 pre 64 $350

So would this appear a good deal at $350? Ser number 15750xx 1949 Winchester 94. Condition very good, bluing 85%, stock not refinished, shoots fine, same owner past 7 yrs, williams peep site, stock not cracked.
I am not that knowledgeable, so anything anyone can say would be appreciated.

For that price I'd buy it. It can only go up, unless something drastic happens to it. The stock looks real good from what I can see and tell. The bluing is slightly worn, but for what about 60 yrs. old, it's in great shape, again from what I can see and tell.

But mooseman's opinion is the one that counts.

True, but yours was posted first. lmao

No but seriously, I only said it because you're in the firearm business aren't you? Or did I misunderstand some of the info I've read left by both you and other members in the many posts on G&G?

NIB specimens according to the Shooting Times Winchester Collectors edition I have says a survey of recent sales indicates a price range of $ 600-$750. If it's new but no box can make a difference in price also. Also, the prices I quoted are from the 28th edition of The BlueBook of Gun Values.

I wanted to add you can definately find them for cheaper.

I only bought the Shooting Times Winchester Special Collectors Edition because I wanted to and finally did buy a Winchester model 94AE in 30-30 off gunbroker.com. For me this magazine was cheaper then the book itself, obviously right, and I didn't need the entire book, that's for serious collectors and FFLs doing a lot of buying and or selling. I was willing to and did pay more the one I wanted then it was worth. I'm fine with that and to me, it was worth it. The wood on it is gorgeous with a deep rich luster and the bluing has that deep thick look to it, kind of how the S&W model 29 has, the earlier model anyhow, haven't checked out the new production on those yet (there's another one I'd like to have), and the blue on it is easily @ 100%. No box came with it, didn't want or need it, only throw it out anyhow.

And besides that Mooseman is an all around good fellow out to benefit and help shooters/collectors,and support the second ammendment.Mooseman for president. This is a ps,That price seems awful high.I bought one similar to that when I was 16yrs old back in ,56 for $35.00.I thought that was high,as at that time I made most of my money working on farms. sam.

From reading some of the posts you've replied to I kind of figured you were a gunsmith and collector. That's the reason I said your opinion is the one that counts.

Kind of knowing that and getting that impression before you posted the FYI, (thanks for doing so by the way, real good to know) was why I had contacted you and asked that you reply to my question about magazine springs. Thanks by the way for replying.

Now that you've left the FYI, I promise not to bombard you with questions. lol

Mooseman or anybody else, got a question bout a 94

My grandfather makes some crazy buys, and I think he did here. He just sent a Winchester Model 94 .30-30 I think was made in 1964 (serial number 2597755) home with me thinking if I refinish it to look like new he can get $900-1200 out of it. Currently it is all original and stock and forearm looks good. It has rusted and has a few small pits, but someone has steel wooled most everything out of it, except most blue is left on barrel. He paid $300 for the rifle and just gave me $340 to take it home and redo everything. I can make it look like new no problem for that price, but this is the question. Should I go ahead and do it, or tell him to sell it now for what he can get out of it, and go waste his money elsewhere?????

If you refinish it, you cut the value by 50%...Clean it carefully, 0000 steel wool and oil on the rust LIGHTLY...A few pits wll take off a few % of value, But Not like a re-finish fo the stock and re-blue of the metal that will de-value the gun by taking all collector Originality value out of it
Sell it as Is...He can get More !!!

Do you think he can get anywhere close to the $300 he paid for it since it was not made until 1964 and is not in very good shape?

Up here in Wisconsin pitted rusted up dinged up Marlin 336s bring more than 300 bucks. There is a pre 64 winchester sitting in a gun shop right now that has a 750 price tag on it. There were two. One sold last week.

If still in doubt go to a reputable gunsmith/dealer near you and ask them to appraise it for insurance purposes. I think you will see that what these guys are saying is truth!

I too will suggest that you buy the rifle, if you don't, a member here might be interested in owning it.
It looks nice and would be worth haveing. You can always get your money back and then some on this one ...A.H
