LOL! I have seen those little Rossi's on the rack in 30-06 and every time I do I say to myself that it is one gun I don't want to shoot. Not from a bench anyways. I am glad you were not seriously hurt. Think it is a classic case of a newbie not knowing what he was buying and a gun store clerk not asking enough questions and leading him to a softer recoil. That is a crime in my book.

Thanks for trying to help him though. People like yourself who offer info and assistance have taught me a lot over the years. Although there was one "helpful" range operator that I almost whupped being stupid and insulting.

I have recently retired and my work was out of town. When I came back, most of the people that I use to shoot with were either gone or quit shooting. So I'm trying to get back into the whole shooting and hunting thing. Well you know how it is with clicks. So every chance I get I try to help someone so I can make some new friends and pass on what I was taught when I was younger. But yea I think he bought that gun because of money issues and lack of guidance. The man seemed to be a very nervous person lacking any kind of guidance or training. I don't like to take anything from someone that enjoys shooting, because we all started out with the need to learn. I have always been a person that believes if you think you know it all, your going to get hurt.

LOL. I can tell you that I will never buy a Rossi, H&R or anything like them in a 30/06 or any caliber above a 223. Who Knows I might be gun shy now. I have not been out shooting since.

The H&R in -06 shoots verry nice with a high degree of accuracy.I mounted a scope for a guy last fall and was getting 1 1/2" and under at 100yds using 165gr hpbt,s from sierra. The barrel was 26" varmint contour. The recoil pad straight from the factory was just fine.I stay away from Rossi but people say some of their products are OK. sam.

I pulled up the Rossi web page and the gun that the scope came off of was a model R306MB with a 23" standard barrel. I have always liked the H&R shotguns. My son's first gun was a 20 Gauge H&R youth model that he keeps because it was his first. Then I got him a 16 Ga Winchester model 12 with poly choke, and that was the end of the H&R. I don't know if you can tell but I am a Winchester nut.
