The 770 is an updated version of the 710 which had a lot of quality control issues. The 770 is supposed to be a lot better, but I couldn't say as I've never messed with one. Welcome to G&G!

Remington is the manufacture of 770 and 710 rifles not Winchester.

"This rifle was designed as a lower-echelon Model 70 but failed to meet acceptance, thus was dropped after only 4 years and replaced by the model 70A. Introduced 1969;discontinued 1972."
Taken from the "Gun Digest Book of Modern Gun Values" 10th Edition; verbatim.

A similar(?) model, the 670, also was produced around this timeframe.

Hope that helped.

Thanks for that post turner. I completely missed the Winchester part of his question for some reason.

I bought a model 770 in 1969. I have used it to shoot bears, elk ,deer, wild boars , javelina, antelope, turkey, and small game. I use winchester superx 180 grain silvertips (Still avail at graf&sons on line) and this rifle has done just as well as my dads model 70. I shot a deer one time at3/10 of a mile in the neck. You have an excellent hunting rifle. mine is a 30-06 win. and I wouldnt trade it for a model 70, or another ruger m-77. which I have both
