.308 Model 70 Featherweight (mfg. 1954 according to its serial number). It was my father's 1955 Christmas present from my mother. It was special ordered through the BX at then-Great Falls AFB (now Malmstrom) and I was with her when she took delivery of it. Dad, now 87 and a long-since retired Air Force colonel, decided it didn't need any more exposure to Florida hurricanes so he permitted me to assume custodial duties about 18 months ago. Surprisingly (but, hey, it's a genuine pre-64 Win, so maybe not so surprising after all) it's still in almost like-new condition. I immediately rescoped it and sighted it last year. When my son visited back in the Spring, I took him and the rifle to the range so he could put a few familiarization rounds through it. Next year I'll put some rounds down range to make sure it's still in sound working order. In fact, I'll make that an annual ritual until I reach the point I decide it's time to surrender custody to my son (but only on the condition he's maintaining it for his son). By my reckoning, that'll be sometime around 2028, give or take a year or two.

Model 67 single shot .22 I received for my 12th birthday in 1947. Cost my dad $5.95. Still use it for squirrels, etc.

My Model 94 in .30-30. My grandpa got it somewhere in the '20s; Dad inherited it from him; and I inherited it from Dad. Somewhere along the way while Dad had it, it lost a tang screw. I took it down to a gunshop in Cherryville, NC while visiting friends and asked them if they maybe could replace the missing screw and just give it an overall look-see. The smith took it, worked the action, and said respectfully, "Man, this is a sweet little rifle."

A pump .22 and lever-action 30-30. They both raised our family, and hard to tell which brought in the most meat. The .22 shot many a hog between the eyes at killing time. We butchered about 20 each year and sold meat and sausage to the local Coal Miners.

A Pre-64 Model 70 in 257 Roberts, built about 1956. Bought it new in 1958 as a high school graduation present to myself! Lots of good times, but the gun is pristine.

Winchester Single Shot 20ga. on my 16th b-day. Was given a choice: shotgun or class ring. Never regreted my choice either. Still have her too!
