Ruined or not ruined model 70?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of engraving on firearms. But if done right, and not over done, I think engraving can definitely "class up" a firearm. But this, this to me has totally ruined what was once a beautiful rifle. And if it indeed is a pre-64, well, I just don't have the words. All I can say to this is, YUCK!

Oh, and don't get me going on the starting bid.

Looks like it has warts. I wouldn't touch it. It looks like the stock is made from polished cat turd. Looks like a bunch of Payday candy bars melted together. LOL!

People are funny

Don't see much "engraving" but a lot of gaudy stock carving. A good replacement stock would do wonders for the gun.

Some people look at these types of guns as artwork, and show-casing the engravers talent. It is in deed beautiful, but not my cup of tea.

Nothing about that gun appeals to me but remember what they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have a friend who loves this type of gun and just has them as safe "queens". To each his own.

As my daughter said many years ago: "Everybody has different taste buds." Without a doubt, someone will see it as "high art" and acquire it. I, for one, will weep over another "lost" pre-64 Model 70.

I think it is overkill

but, honestly, there was a time in the late 1940's and 1950's when this
sort of thing was really in vogue.

If you have ever seen some of the older Weatherby guns from the 1950's their top of the line was engraved to death by today's viewpoint.

The engraving on the gun is very nice, but whoever carved the stock went overboard. If you put the barreled action into a nice exhibition grade walnut stock then it would be a nice gun to show off.
