Primers 1/12 Vs. 5 1/2 ???? Difference??

Ok I usually buy Winchester primers not Remington. I went to Bass Pro and all they had was Remington. I asked for some small pistol primers and he asked
1 1/2 or 5 1/2? I didn't know I had a choice. My questions are what is the difference in 1 1/2 and 5 1/2? Also all I have used is Winchester, so which is Winchester closer too or equivalent too 1 1/2 or 5 1/2? Also where does the CCI 500 primers compare to the 1 1/2's and 5 1/2's? Thanks Pontiacdm

1 1/2 are regular primers. 5 1/2 are Magnum primers.

There's a table on this forum somewhere showing what all the manufacturers call their various primers.
