Winchester model 12 - shell stop not working

OK folks. I'm hoping for a little help. I bought a used model 12 - 16 ga. that had been nickle plated, ($200). The nickling process thinned the end of the barrel to the point I cut it back to 20" thinking on using it as a "truck gun".
The problem is the shell stop isn't functioning. It allows shells to slip under the bolt and jam the gun. I've replaced the shell stop with a new one, (which wasn't easy to find). It still isn't working right and I'm looking for some ideas on what to try next other than using it for a boat anchor or a single shot!
Thanks in advance for any help. Jim

Both of you guys need to find a competent gunsmith and have the guns fixed properly, that would be the best thing i can offer .

if you are using 2 3/4" shells make sure the gun is chambered for them. my 16 ga. mod. 12 is chambered for 2 9/16" shells. the longer shells will shoot but could cause higher chamber pressure because the crimp unfolds into the bore. they also don't want to eject because of the length. since all the old paper roll crimp (2 9/16") shells are gone, I had to pay a high price to "Old Western Scrounger" to buy Eley 2 1/2" ammo to feed it.

My dad's was doing that as well. Took it to a gunsmith and he actually had another Mdl 12 there for the same problem. I'm not sure what he did, but both of 'em got fixed. I'm guessing it's a common problem with the older model 12's.
