| Duck Hunting Report Got out today with the boy and dad. We drew in this morning and took blind 20 on the south end of Anerson lake (Carlson Lake). The temp was just below freezing as we made the short trip to the blind by boat. The lake was drained in the spring and planted with millett and corn on the edges. The prop on the 25HP Mariner caught heck with all the millet getting caught up in it. At approx ten minutes before legal shooting time (0608) we were being buzzed by a varitey of ducks. Blue wing teal, pintail, mallards, ringneck etc.. The ducks have an internal clock I swear! Right around the legal shooting time the action died down a bit. We had some shooting also known as missing I had the 'ole 870 Wingmaster shooting Winchester Expert 1 1/8 oz of 2's 2 3/4" Shells. (Still dragging my heels on a 3" chamber gun) Son had his Mossy youth 20ga shooting 3" 3's 1oz Dad had his new Benelli shooting "various stuff I need to get rid of" We lost no ducks to crippling. Some had to get finished off on the water, but all were recovered. We ended up with 5 ringnecks (millett fed) the Mallards just didn't want to work. Everything else stayed on the edge of the decoy spread, about 55~60 yards. I still want to get some coot decoys to throw in with ours. They never swim in the decoy spread, I think the ducks pick up on that. Guys using the Robo duck were doing Ok. I still refuse to get one. Stubborn I guess. Just don't like 'em. Any way a mess of feathers and 5 ducks in the freezer. Ready for the roaster and a big helping of wild rice

| YES, I GOT THE BOX AT WORK. (SINCE I SPEND MORE TIME THERE THAN HOME IT ROLLED OUT ON TOP OF MY DESK AS I OPENED THE BOX. ONE OF MY CO-WORKERS WAS STANDING THERE AT THE TIME. WE BOTH GOT A LAUGH OF IT.

| Jerry, if you get a new 870 you ought to just get the one chambered for 3 and a half inch mags. Never know when they come in handy. I wish my duck report was as good. We opened up Oct 28. My buddy and I took his boat down and Murphys Law rode along. He forgot the spotlight so we made a four mile boat run across the lake in the dark. Didn't see a single duck. Still a little early for 'em inTexas. We use coot decoys towards the end of the season cause the ducks get wary of their own kind and no one else down here uses the coots. I'm glad you got some shooting in. Good luck through the rest of the season.

| Yup, A little slow here too. The cold weather farther north is helping, but wait ti'll they get the snow and it covers up the fields. The 3.5" is a good idea. I'm thinking of switching to an auto loader though. Can't see having two (3 counting the 16 ga.) one I'm using one I'm not. I don't duck hunt with the 16 though. 3.5" auto loader are getting into some bucks I think. I'd like to have Benelli Super Black Eagle......................But... $$$$$$$ ching, ching!

| I looked real close at the 11-87 SUper Mag with the synthetic stock, and it runs about 750. I have a tough time spending that when I know my 870 does the trick and it was cheap so I am not afraid to use it for an oar if I have too.

| come to think of it i shot a pump with 3 & 3.5" fodder once. i short shucked several times being used to the 2 3/4" wingmaster. You can't beat the 870 express for ducks or the mossberg ulti-mag. i just have a hard time having the samer two guns basically. Also, i got the wingmaster on my 16th christmas, i'm emotionally attached to it, i'd hate to get in the habbit of leaving it in the closet. But, dang it, i need more gun! I could get into an auto loader with the charles daly 3" and not have to re-mortgage the house (about $350.00) If I didn't like it i could always get $300 back out of it i'm sure. I could take the wingmaster tot he trap range and give her a good work out when i go, also still good for pheasant and quail. But, then will i foreget to pump? I"M SO CONFUSED!

| Jerry, you'll do what I do. I have the 870 and I have a beautiful Browning Citori O/U that cost me an arm and a leg. Guess which one goes to the field or marsh with me. The 870. I have gotten my moneys worth out of it. I can't say that about the O/U. I read an article in a DU mag where a guy took his old 870 and dropped 1200 dollars into mods. Why not go out and buy a Super Benelli for that much, well b/c like us he loves his 870.
