I love the patterning of my 12 ga gun using #8 lead shot. I am afraid to use #8 shot while hunting cause I feel it may be a bit to weak and would cripple rather than kill. Does anyone have any experience with #8 shot in hunting small birds (e.g. pigeons) ? Up to how may yards can it be used effictively. I would really appreciate any advice here...thanks.

I don't use # 8 shot for anything other than doves or quail and 35 yds is a good "kill zone" for your pattern with a modified choke. Any larger game I step up in both shot size and charge. Jesse
