| Great Pheasant Hunt
Well another great day chasing pheasants! I got him in kind of an open area when my big male "RANGER" pinned him down my little female "HONOR" lived up to her name and backed him. It was real windy today 25+knots so I shot him with some #4 Heavi-shot. Now for the funny part I am trying to cross an old dry river bottom as both dogs are on point on the far side. Well as I am moving with all speed thru the berry bushes he flushes from 10 yards right at my head. Well as I swing for a shot 180 degrees in the opposite direction at about 125 degrees sprung up this fifty year old cotton tree and as my Benelli hits it at full swing it just kind of went thunk! Well all I could do was laugh and enjoy the rest of the day! |

| Hey you old pheasant killer nice job whacking the bird...LOL My computer was ill and actually it was the modem connection that has spanked me off for a spell. Well i was over in the other post and saw that you left a message there. Well to answer your question, i do have a dog but the shorthairs are long gone. My wife and youngest daughter have a Mastiff Lab at about 110 pounds but he is not a very good hunter. Thats my fault,i have never trained him for hunting. A while ago i had shorthairs and three to be exact, The one was named "Babe" she was the field champ, she was hit by a car and i believe she could have made it but to me it looked like she would have been confined to the house with her hunting days over and many vet bills so i had put her to sleep myself. She was the best that i have ever seen and i just could not get myself to train another fearing that i would always compare the dogs to her as i did with the other two...Yep we seemed to be the only ones posting the birds. I have only seven this year and was out a few days ago and hunted 8 hours with not a single pheasant flush..I fear they are all gone. The thing is December 18 is a stocking date were the State will release some but there will be only 200 hens spread around...... who knows where.. Hey if you don't mind i will add you as a friend and that way iffin ya care to chat er something that would make an old man happy...Take Care and good shooting Earl Last edited by Earl Easter; 11-19-2009 at 06:41 AM. |
