| Super Moderator ![]() | SRX I have yet to figure that one out if it were rewarding I wouldn't feel the pain after firing 20 rounds with my 375h&H magnum

| Super Moderator ![]() | Emphasis on the moderation part. The recoil from a smooth working SKS or M1 Garand makes you feel like you're accomplising something. Same with a properly sized and weighted semi auto pistol. Or a nice hefty K98 Mauser. And depending on what you shoot, a 12ga shotgun with regular loads feels nice when you see whatever you were shooting blow up (if you shoot the same inanimate objects that I do). Can't say the same for my 300 RUM though. Only reward I'll get from it is hopefully some food.

| Senior Member | but why would i prefer to feel "accomplished" over pain? So basically the only good of recoiling is that it feeds one's ego?

| Super Moderator ![]() | ah BRG3 just wants you to experience pain -- just realize when you finally settle on a caliber you are comfortable with there will be some recoil in a handgun it won't be that bad if you stay with a semi auto, if you go with the revolver and magnum loads then you get to feel it. I believe you will end up settling on the .40 S&W when all is done and you are finally comfortable with what you want.

| Super Moderator ![]() | I wasn't talking about pain, I was distinguishing between pain and a friendly pat, push, tap, or however one would describe moderately recoiling rifles like SKSs and ARs. Buttpads help to make the difference, maybe that's why I like my Yugo better than my Norinco SKS. I'm a fan of the 40 S&W myself. HK USP compacts come in 40 S&W. So do Steyrs.

| Super Moderator ![]() | I have no experience with Sig, I'm told that Steyr uses a similar locking mechanism as the Browning, and that Kahr is similar in feel to the Browning. My Steyr M40 is the most comfortable shooting pistol I've ever shot, I kid you not. It has absolutely spoiled me. I've never shot an HK, but those who have say that it's the only one that can hold a candlt to the Steyr. Others still say SIG is better. I think the polymer frames on HK and Steyr help their comfort, and the presence of their manual safety is a must for me. Do Kahrs have a safety?

| Super Moderator ![]() | Kahr's don't have a safety -- your finger is the safety but a pure DA gun they don't need it. They have the exact angles as the Browing and the colt thats why Hi Power shooters and 1911 shooters love them

| Super Moderator ![]() | Whether or not a manual safety is needed is a subject for debate and ultimately boils down to personal choice. I'm in the school of thought that you can become the most expert at not putting your finger on a trigger until firing, but little silly things like getting caught in your shirt can make it a risk I can't accept. I'd rather focus on getting proficient with a manual safety.
