Thanks Countrymama, I look forward to getting to know you guys better

I saw your post on another thread about your friend being raped right across from a school. I was happy that you chose to get a pistol before the rifle that you had wanted for so long.

I don't live in a very large town, but the crime rate is going up here because so many are moving in from the Los Angeles area. My first defense is my 3 medium sized dogs. I believe their barking alone keeps people at bay, but meth is rampant up here so I would rather be safe than sorry!

meth is very bad here too...small rural area with in an hours' distance of two major metro areas...i can't believe how its changed since we moved here about 10 years ago...
the stakes are higher now for me too, gotta protect my kids too...my 5 yo boy thinks he can protect me...he's "the man of the house" when dad's at work...lol...sweet and a little sad all at the same time...

i moved from a town of about 30,000 with crime rates similar to compton, to a town of about 30,000 with crime rates almost as high

countrymama, i'm assuming you're talking about chicago and milwaukee rite? i used to live about an hour south of chicago(kankakee), gangs there go south, not north

nope, other side of the state...Twin Cities, MN and Eau Claire, WI. most wouldn't recognice EC as a metro area, but around here, its one of the next closest and has lots of "low lying" drug problems. the drug runners from the bigger cities (chicago, milwaukee, mpls/st paul, etc) use this "big small town" as a sort of cover. there are some asian gangs that have recenly become quite active and the drug problem is growing...maybe not all the gangs go south...thats what the local police tell us...because I-94 runs very close to where i live, its sometimes safer for the drug runners to get off the interstate and take some back roads to "hide" a bit...thats just what the police have told us...

eau claire isn't a major metro area

the majority of the chicago gangs move south, if you don't believe me take a road trip to kankakee, they've had 3 people in that town of 30,000 get shot this year already, but there will be some wherever there is money

i didn't say it was...re-read my post, i said around here, its the closest thing to it, and provides some feeling of security for the bad guys...and i didn't say only chicago...there are plenty that come east from the Twin Cities. My cousin is a detective in the Twin Cities and he warns my sisters and i all the time about this...
but, whatever you want to believe...

Hey all,
Just wanted to toss my two cents in. I grew up in a very small town (700 ppl) and was shocked and appalled when I heard that a small girl had recently been raped there. How sad it is indeed when you can't feel your children and yourself are safe. The seemingly recent surge in violence and possible political outcomes have prompted my parents to seriously consider acquiring a gun for home/self defense. I hope that they do and soon.
Anyway, my husband has well equipped me and is in the process of educating me with/about guns. Let's see, in April 2005, I owned 0 firearms. Now, I own at least 5. I still need to acquire a carry permit, but that will come soon. I'm more interested in gaining proper knowledge and experience with my handgun. I agree, we need to speak out and defend our rights, but most importantly exercise those rights with honor and responisbility.
