The model 60 now comes in a 5" barrel version for just that sort of use. I was tempted to get one just because I like 5 shooters.

About 15 years ago, I bought my first .454 Casull, a Freedom Arms 83 with 4 3/4" barrel. My wife used to shoot my .44 magnums without any problems, and decided she'd try the .454. She fired one shot....a cast 335 gr. bullet at 1450 fps. The gun very nearly hit her in the forehead. She handed it back and said "that's enough".

There is kind of a trick to chambering a round in a semi-auto. Hold the slide in your non-dominant hand and push the grip forward. For some reason it is easier than pulling the slide back. Some weapons have a stronger spring than others. Seems like a Ruger has a stronger return spring than my Taurus. Both have been shot quite a bit.

Matter of fact the Taurus will cycle a handloaded round that the ruger will not.

not a female, just live with one.
