Ya'll are talking about buying "more" guns and I am still scratching my head trying to find my first one LOL. Ohhhh to have some experience already under the belt..... I am going looking again today. Who knows I may come back with it.

Sorry about getting carried away on the other thread with off topic.

I love talking about my dobermans like ya'll like talking about your guns and soon hopefully I will get to talk about my guns too!

Yeah, I use to have one but we had to put her down(my dad), great dogs. Soon as you get a gun you will have something to talk about, believe me.

So I can stay on topic for a moment, I love Dobes. I owned two about 15 years ago. A sweet black and fawn named Tori and a big robust blue named Aramis.
Were they imposing in appearance. Darned right they were. Were they imposing in temperament? Nah, they were pussy cats. I won't own another one though for one reason.

Their life span is so short, and my heart broke so bad when I lost them...

Now off topic. Hubby and I were in a nearby Farm King today browsing rifles on sale and noticed a sign hanging over the gun case.

Only Illinois Residents Need to Show FOID Cards.

We live in Illinois and are residents.

If we lived in Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin,or Kentucky, and shopped an Illinois Farm King store, we wouldn't have to show a gun permit FOID card, AKA gun owner registration.

Hubby and I exchanged shocked looks. Is this discrimination? Kinda looks that way doesn't it? Illinois will sell guns to out of adjoining states residents without gun registration ID, but won't sell them to their own residents without two forms of ID including the ever cursed FOID card!!!!

Maybe it isn't discrimination, maybe it's nothing more than good old fashioned hypocritical two faceness.

Either way it stinks.

Rant over. I just had to vent a little before my head exploded.

Well in that case what you do is find a gun-dealer you like and trust and buy from him/her!

gunny don't take this wrong please, but let your father do your gun dealing because he'll be the one to have the back ground check and pay for it with your money.
And if he's a Detective he should know someone with an FFL.
Check the prices at The Gun Source and Buds Gun Shop and any other site another member may recomemnd.
I'm thinking you said you were 18 years old so check the above sites for something in your price range and show your Dad the low prices.
And I hope he knows someone with an FFL because the prices youv'e ben quoteing are a little high feller...My 2 cents...A.H

I know the price's ive been quoting are high but that's everywhere here and I asked him about ordering and he started talking through his teeth. He also goes and tries to talk em down but as a matter of fact I know more about guns than he does, he knows basic dissasembly but only his own gun. I know plenty more gun prices(range of price for condition)than he does. So he just says: find one you like.

FOID= Firearms Owner IDentification This card is required to buy &/OR posses a firearm &/OR ammo in IL. Yes... that is correct, buy or posses! That means if a husband owns a gun and the wife does not, she is in violation of the law by being in her own home! BLAH! Gotta love IL!

You may like that law and I know I live in Okieville but I think that law is not doing the wife any good(robber/burgler).

Very well put, Khahn. We were out west earlier this year and went to a local wally world to buy extra ammo to take to a gun range. At the sporting goods check out, we started to pull our FOID cards out of our wallets to show the clerk who promptly told us that we didn't need them...nor did we need to show her our ID's. She just needed our money. We thought about relocating only it's HOT!

Illinois and Wisconsin have the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. No concealed carry, no hunting deer with rifle (In Illinois) and at least in Wisconsin you don't have to have FOID cards. In fact, I think Illinois is the only state in the US that has them. The worst part is going to a gun show where there are tables full of ammo and really neat guns and if you just pick up a box to look at the caliber or check it, out, you have somebody demanding to see your FOID card. It's terrible to be middle aged and be treated like a child by the state you live in.

Yet in Illinois, all the politicians opposed to second amendment rights, have armed body guards.....

Sorry for the rant. But FOID is a dirty four letter word in our household.
