WELCOME! I use the electronic ones from Walmart or Academy. 20.00 Don't ask the wife why I got them. The redneck way is NOT recommended. I did not see the chamber open, and the finger is on the trigger.

definately important to wear hearing protection, plugs or muffs- preferably both. due to loud cars, machinery, and guns ive lost 50% hearing in one ear, and lost some tones in the other. oh yeah, lets also say tinnitus is no fun. hard to fall asleep when your ears are ringing.
ladies, yes ear plugs and ear muffs are uncomfortable, but you do get used to them. even if you find that you dont get used to them, being uncomfortable is much better than the alternative.

Some great points made here. I use foam plugs under muffs and I have no problems. Get the right foam plugs though. The barrel shaped ones tat are "harder" work the best for me. Those soft foam ones that are shaped to fit don't work worth a damn. Sears hardware still carries the good ones.

Are they comfortable? My hunting and fishing buddy Lenny snores and grinds his teeth like mad. I spent one hellish night in deer camp without them. Sleeping with those things in is easy as pie. I have done it now for 15 years any time I am on a trip with the guys.

I went through 50 years of life shooting with out hearing protection.
Now I have a very fine set of $1800.00 hearing aids.
Just turn them off and shoot.
Too darn late now.
Ain't no more hearing them little sweet nothings after you take them out and go to bed.
PROTECT YOUR HEARING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Country Girl,

How uncomfortable is it trying to fall asleep to a loud high-pitched ringing in your ears? How hard is it to hear that same loud high-pitch ringing in your ears every waking moment?

"What?" and "Huh?" are my two most used words (and least favorite). Please use some hearing protection.

OldTimer, you hit the nail on the head. I call it my crickets. The constant ringing and chirping. My ear doctor said some people actually go insane from it. I can see how that could be possible.
It sounds like you just finished a hearing test and didn't take off the head set and there is one constant pitch screaming in your ears. If you hear any thing, it has to be louder than what the ringing is before you hear it.

Aircraft engines have been my hearing downfall.

Do yourself a favor and remember to use your ear protection with power tools, lawnmowers etc.

Rock concerts are not so good either.

I have one ear that the drum is damaged. I cannot tell from where the sounds come from.
I should have been wearing both the earplugs and ear muffs. Hearing generally cannot be fixed. Please take it from those of us who have already made this mistake.

Where hearing protection. You can get special ear protection to fit your ear that will usually prevent the pain caused from a poor fit. They also come out with many new very soft plugs as others have mentioned.

The BEST that I found and that would NOT get in the way, was the little foam critters, I would twist them and push them in.. BE CAREFUL I have a few still in and every so often when it rains I can't hear nothing. I never wore Micky Mouse Ears, got i the way, but them FOAM critters were the best. The little Rubber ones, sucked.
