Did anybody read in todays paper where in north Carolina a 4 year old pulled her grandmothers gun out of her purse while sitting in a shopping cart and shot herself in the chest.

I don't know if it was pink or not but several safety rules were ignored.

I always taught my nieces and nephews that there was only one rule at my house "if it ain't yours, touch and you will need medical help".

I don't think I could bring myself to purchase a "pretty" gun, let alone fire one. I can't imagine trying to defend myself with one either, the criminal might just die from laughter.
I really don't see why some women are more likley to purchase a "pretty" gun, will it work any better/worse? No.
As for kids finding them more attractive, they probably will, but that is no reason to ban them. Parents need to be responsible and teach there kids gun safety, and keep guns out of reach of small children.

Maybe, just maybe if the wood, not metal had some minimal amount of pink, then I might use it.

A good example of the importance of teaching young ones gun safety!! My lil' one knows not to touch our guns...he will even leave the area when the guns are in sight (when we are cleaning it, etc.)-he has his own BB gun and an air pellet gun that he shoots with our supervision...it teaches him the basics of a "firearm" and it takes away his curiosity.

That is very smart MrsS.

My father did the very same thing to me when I was younger. I knew right where dads guns were but would never go near them unless he was there. I had friends that would always want to sneek into my parents room so they could see the guns in the closet.
If you teach children from a young age that guns can be very dangerous you are better off than trying to hide the guns from them. I really think that most of the accidents could be avoided if parents took the time to take the curiosity away by teaching their kids. Kids want what they are not supposed to have.
That is my opinnion anyways and I know several people who disagree with me. To each their own.

Let's share our opinions! Thanks
As the husband of a gun owner I can say the "pretty" aspect has turned my wifes head on more than one occation.
As for safety it might be good to tone down a bit. But in my opinion gun safety starts at home. teach your children the whats and whys of gun safety.
My mother bought me my 1st shotgun when I was 6 yrs old. I knew the ins and outs of that firearm before I was ever allowed to handle it ( thanks to relatives). Any time someone ( my age) came to the house there was always an "off limits" w/o an adult area.
If I wanted to show my new gun off, I had an adult present.
I think gun safety starts 1st and foremost with the child not with the gun.

TexasT, please, I hope you didn't take it wrong. Was only funnin'. And it isn't the positioning of the feet. It was the hands on the hips and the slight facial expression.

Just ask and I'll delete it all?
