Women's feelings on firearms

What are your female friends/relatives' overall opinion/feelings on firearms? Explain, if possible.

My female friends, with the exception of one, are pretty much against firearms, especially when it comes to carrying it. The funny thing is: several of them have shotguns in their homes that their spouse will use for home defense (so they say)...my only sister thinks its okay if women use/carry guns, although she, herself, won't try shooting them-no matter what I tell her.

When I went to take my Conceal and Carry, I was told by my mother and sister-in-law that I was stupid for doing it. That I wouldn't ever need it if I was smart enough to not go to bad places. And carrying a gun was just going to get me in trouble. I told them both their ignorance was scaring me and I was leaving before it rubbed off.

My mom could care less if there's guns in the house, but she is scared to shoot one. My sister doesn't think it's girly enough.

TT,get your sister a pink one.

My wife is a good shot with a .22 rifle and better than average with a 30-30.

good question! ALL my female friends are anti gun and generally squeamish about anything related to them. (hunting, shooting predators that are killing off our livestock, etc) I've gotten used to that. Fact is that most women are conditioned to believe that fear and helplessness as desirable feminine traits. They don't see it that way, but when I see teenage girls reading magazines wishing they were as skinny as those little 98 pound models, I just cringe. Why is weakness "feminine"?
Come to think of it though, a substantial % of my guy friends are fairly anti gun too. I know very few all out 2nd amendment folks; most are "hybrids," and want to hunt and fish but believe in "limited gun control."

My sister, armed with my brother-in-law's side by side shotgun, once chased off two men who were beating up a third man on the vacant lot next to her house. When the victim approached her to thank her, she told him to pop a clutch too; he did.

My mom used to go squirrel hunting with her father in the early morning hours around Danbury, Connecticut in the fall season back in the early 30's. In those days, they'd walk back into town, guns in hand, and give the squirrels to my grandmother, who being a Lebanese immigrant, would roast them with rice, garlic, and pine nuts; don't ask me what it tasted like. My mom started her adult life with her father's .32ACP Colt Model 1903 pocket auto pistol that he carried as a federal agent during World War II. My mom later gave it to my now deceased aunt. She may be getting the Colt back with my grandfather's double barreled Lefever 12 gauge. As a replacement for the Colt, I gave my mom a 9mm STAR BM which she carried in her purse while working as a pharmaceutical technician at a late night health clinic until her recent retirement. She still carries it when she goes out.

Finally, my wife qualified with an M-16A2 service rifle every year that she was in the Air Force. She shoots quite well and currently has within reach a .38 spl. Smith & Wesson Model 64 with a 3" barrel and rosewood grips. She's too girlish to actually carry a weapon on her person, but she won't hesitate to use deadly force to protect our son ... and possibly me.

Most of my girlfriends in Ca are for firearms for protecting their families and property. To bad thay in live in a state that doesn't give you much of a chose with what you can own.I stay by myself for 2 weeks out of the year and I have no problem shooting someone or something that will harm me or my animals

My girl friends: Depends on the situation.

My mom's side of the family: (Excluding grandparents who are very pro-gun and pro-hunting), against it. My aunt (both of them I think) would rather be raped, shot, killed and strewn apart than ever own a gun. My cousins...not sure how they feel about it.

My dad's side of the family: Pretty much pro-gun.

My mom is not a fan of guns.

My dad and brother are very much pro-gun.

A lot of my family is pro-gun, which most of my extended family consists of males. The females sometimes act too dainty to want to handle a gun. On the other hand, I have convinced some of my friends both male and female that guns are a good thing. I've even taken some to the range to shoot my guns.

I'll never forget as a child seeing my grandma grabbing the shotgun out of the closet and running out the back door 'cause "...them varmits is in the garden again!"

...or the tasty rabbit lunch that followed the event!!!

I live and work in a National Park. Most people I know can't believe we have a gun in the house. We have a 2 year old. She knows what a rifle is. She knows it's locked up to keep her safe. She knows not to touch it for any reason (without permission). She's seen us shoot the rifles and has watched her daddy clean them. But people act like we're not being safe. We live near the edge of the Grand Canyon. These same people think we're too strict with her because we use a kid leash on her whenever we're near the edge. I'm probably one of the most paranoid, safety conscience parents around here. I know that if she grows up respecting weapons and the Canyon, being fully aware of the dangers, she will be able to enjoy both even more.

While My Mom doesnt own a gun, she has shot them before and outshot people with their own guns ! She understands the need for them and is basically pro-gun. My GF carries a handgun daily and is also a crack pistol shot...Squirrels dont stand a chance !

Well all my female friends either carry OR has taken the classes ( including my wife) so I guess they are pretty much for firearms and not against.
My wife on the otherhand is totally against firearms UNLESS SHE OWNS THEM!.
All my female family members have been around firearms or shooting them all their lives.
