Well...!

So... was browsing a certain gun shop, drooling over Yugo SKS's and the Finnish 91/30 I mentioned in another thread. Then I see a guy in a business suit and a guy with a big camera come in... a news crew.

First, they interview the owner of the store, then they interview a couple customers and employees. I noticed the cameraman browsing a bit while the reporter was off somewhere and asked him what network he was with. He told me Univision (a largely Hispanic network). And we started talking about guns... and as we talk, I notice him getting a weird look, and he starts fiddling with his camera. The reporter comes back, and he tells the reporter some of the stuff I said while he's quickly mounting his camera on the tripod. So the reporter asks me a few questions which I cheerfully give my thoughts on (like what I think the Second Amendment is all about, and how I feel about recent attacks on it). He wraps up the interview, tells me it'll be aired in February, and eagerly shakes my hand several times. So now, I'm flattered. He'd been sticking mostly to the gentlemanly older guys wearing flannel shirts and hunting vests... and here I am, jeans, t-shirt, long hair and a goatee.

I really suspect anything said in favor of the Second will be taken out of context. A 'news crew' suddenly descending unannounced on a business - something smells fishy here.

Well, we'll see. The worst that can happen is that the anti-gun loyalists stay anti-gun, the pro-gun people stay pro-gun, and a few undecided get swayed one way or the other.

They needed some "local color" to liven up the piece, Raven, and you filled the bill very nicely. But I'm betting you either get left on the editing-room floor or chopped into unintelligible sound bites, because you don't fit their preconceived notions.

I'm getting old and cynical; hope I'm wrong.

Thumbs up

Hopefully it'll work out. I was once interviewed by an NPR flack coming out of the local gunshow. She asked me about my views on the Second and guns in general. I gave as good as I could, considering no warning or warm-up. I thought no more about it - then a couple days later, a couple folks at work mentioned they heard me on the radio! They said I came across well, and that my points were kept as I stated them. Gotta admit, that boosted my idea of NPR a bit.

Went to a gun show once back around the time of the first gun ban and they were interviewing people. Professionals, doctors, lawyers, trade workers etc... and who do they get to stand in front of the camera?

250lbd Bubba dressed head to toe in camo sporting a rifle on his shoulder.

That's funny GR, I was interviewed by a hispanic station in San Antonio a couple of weeks after 9\11 at a shooting range owned by a G&G "member" named Michelle. It was hot as he ll and I'd been out for my stepsons 21st B-Day the night before and consumed an excess of wobbly pops, so I was sweating my a** off as I walked in the office. Just as I walked in, one of the prettiest hispanic ladies I've ever seen asks if I'll agree to talk to them. She asked me a lot of questions about whether or not I thought folks were arming themselves to fight terrorism and my views on gun ownership, etc. All-in-all, it was a pleasant experience and not a hack-job in any way. I was embarrased as he ll since I was sweating like a pig with an SKS slung over my shoulder, but it was pretty cool overall.
