Think Mitt Romney is Pro-Gun NOW? Think Again!

Here's Mitt in his own words -

Keep weapons of "unusual lethality" off the street:

"We should check on the backgrounds of people who are trying to purchase guns. We also should keep weapons of unusual lethality from being on the street."

Source: Meet the Press: 2007 "Meet the Candidates" series Dec 16, 2007

Would sign assault weapon ban:

"..if there is determined to be, from time to time, a weapon of such lethality that it poses a grave risk to our law enforcement personnel, that's something I would consider signing. There's nothing of that nature that's being proposed today in Washington. But I would look at weapons that pose extraordinary lethality."

Supports assault weapon ban:

"Let's get the record straight. First of all, there's no question that I support 2nd Amendment rights, but I also support an assault weapon ban."

After careful research, I don't believe that you will be able to find a better pro-gun stand from an electable candidate, a candidate who is experienced and qualified to serve us as president in balanced conservative republican principles, than what Mitt Romney is offering.

I fail to be comforted by such words for a candidate who has already signed one AW ban into law, and who says

"..but I also support an assault weapon ban."

Just in May of 2007

Most especially after having changed his stand on numerous other issues just in time for the campaigning to begin.

I believe it is essential for each of us to participate in personal and careful research on each candidate. It's important for us to review what was said, what was actually done, and how it was done. Each of these areas is equally essential in evaluating the candidates and the political matters before us, especially the critical rights and liberties that are ensured and protected to us in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

We all know that there is a lot of mud slinging going on during campaigning efforts, and that careful research, away from the mud and tumult of opinions, will reveal the foundation upon which each candidate's political position/stand is anchored, or not anchored.

I think what is in Red says it all, THE AWB is still in Washington so he is NOT referring to any firearms within the AWB list. HE is referring, I am sure to FULL AUTO Uzis and the such. Not civilian look a likes that are Semi-Auto.

That's a supposition on your part; I see no reason not to think that he means those weapons that he banned when he signed Mass' AWB.

As near as I can tell from looking at the current four front runners, we are SOL anyway we go. Hopefully Huckabee will make a really good showing on Feb. 5. I am not holding my breath though.
