It is the breed, it is genetics. Do you know how many people tell me I look, walk, and stand like my father? I don't even notice it at all.

The whole bull breed of dogs (bulldogs, bull terriers, pit bulls, etc) all share some sort of common ancestor and they all were bred to fight. Now, they all may not be aggressive but they are almost always naturally dominant, and when confronted they don't back down easy at all.

It is not to say you can't have one and they can't be the nicest dog on the planet, no one is saying that. However, genetics plays a big part in what they are and what they are capable of. It also makes them a hell of a lot easier to train to kill or be aggressive or mean.

A good friend of mine, his father is a Vet, and has been practicing on animals for a couple decades. He has three practices in town. He only refuses to work on one breed of dog, and this is the Chow. They have been bred in China for thousands of years as royal guard dogs, and they have been bred to be mean and vicious, and I have never met one I felt safe around. I have had several friends growing up that have had chows and my uncle currently has a chow mix. They are very sketchy and very
naturally aggressive.

To say that its not the breed is a bit ignorant because genetics does make up a whole lot of who you are. Genetically I am predisposed to alcoholism due to my Irish and Native American backgrounds. That does not mean I will be one, but I have a higher chance of becoming one.

I work as a lineman for a phone company. We've been bitten by every kind of dog. They all bite. However, I was attacked by a pitbull. Had I not been 6' and 200lbs, it could've turned out bad. Another co-worker was attacked by a chow and it broke both bones in his forearm. Most dogs bite, but some attack. There is a difference.

The only breed I've ever been attacked by was a Dalmation. And I've known quite a few more pit bulls than I have all other breeds combined. It's the owners. Pit bulls were specifically bred NOT to attack humans. Yes, pit bulls take a bit of extra time to be socialised to other dogs, but not humans.

Let me tell you something you little piece of crap. When on 2 separate occasions I hear a pitbull in my fenced in back yard attacking my dog you are damn right that I have no qualms about having to or admitting to having to shoot them. The first one I killed deader than !t; the second got away and took off; but I hope, I really hope, that piece of of a dog bled out in his owners yard. Had I not been home that day sick from work that dog would have killed my lab.

I know what these dogs are capable of. These dogs weren't aggressive towards me either. But they were ferociously vicious towards my dog. That's their nature. I tried to get the first one out but he kept edging towards my lab. It went form growling to few quick bites to full blown in for the neck and throat biting. I sprayed with a hose; no effect. I BEAT it with a piece of bamboo; no effect. I shot it twice; and it did not release. A few moments after the second shot it released and ran towards the fence to get out but fell dead. The second never got a chance to go into full attack mode. I popped it and it ran off.

"Intelligent people" also know that if you have a vicious animal in your yard you are well within your right to put it down if you feel it to be a threat. Your preconcieved notion that everyone who has to shoot a pit bull is some sort of redneck inbred gloryhound makes you as ignorant as your neighbor.

And speaking of tough guys and their guns; your comment:

really sounds alot like bragging to me. It's a good thing you had your "trusty" 1911. You sure showed him didn't you bubba? BTW did you call the cops and report the neighbor for a firearms violation?

What a jackhole. I expect your time here will be very short indeed.

FIRST off , "sir" , I am NOT "a piece of crap " !
Secondly , " Bubba " , YOUR addresss shows your IQ potential .
Your personal attacks on the internet are some REAL indicators of YOUR character .
I`ll bet that you were a REAL tough guy , back in the days before computers , when all you had to act tough on then , was a telephone .
Now that we KNOW that you are a real tough guy on the interenet and , with dogs , why don`t you just complete the set and tell us all how tough you are with women and children ?
Funny how you knew ( or did someone have to tell you ? ) Just the slime ball I was thinking of when I wrote that !

Speaking of character; you came on here and started your post off with a nice little flame by stating "ALL you tough guys bragging about shooting pitbulls". Only two posters had stated that they had to kill a pitbull and both were "no other option" scenarios. One poster was myself and one was the firefighter. Noone else said anything about having to shoot a pitbull or any dog for that matter. So get your facts straight before you go off and start chiding people for using their guns in self defense.
I also am not the one who came on here and started bragging on how they had to teach someone some "english" by pulling a gun on them. I detected a little racial prejudism in that remark which upon reflection I felt you earned the nickname "bubba". Pretty sure I hit the nail on the head.
In the old days I would have done the same thing I do today. I would simply shoot your damn dog if I caught it in my yard. Plain and simple. No bragging, no bravado. If your stupid enough to own a dog that has a distemperment towards other animals and it gets free and gets shot then you have gotten exactly what you deserve; maggot food!
Like I said; your tenure will be short lived here bubba!

Sure they are learned, but at the same time genetics come into play. If you have a set of mean dogs have puppies there chances of being mean are greater than if two timid dogs have puppies.

Lets look at a few facts here:

For over a hundred years a Beagle was bred to hunt rabbits.

For over a hundred years a Labrador Retriever was bred to retrieve game.

For over a hundred years a Siberian Husky was bred to pull sleds in the snow.

For over a hundred years a Border Collie was bred to herd sheep.

Yes, it's true you can train and abuse almost any dog to learn how to be a attack dog. But that doesn't change the facts:

For over a hundred years a Pit Bull was bred to kill other dogs, nothing else just KILL DOGS, period.

Sorry if this offends anyone here, but that's just the facts. If someone really believes that being from South Carolina or any other southern state has anything to do with someones I.Q. then your sacasm shows true ignorance. I also believe when it comes to name calling, a thread should be closed.
