From Cheaper Than Dirt’s Facebook page posted around lunchtime today, Tuesday the 19th.
Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.
This is just another blow to the gun industry in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Connecticut. Walmart has taken out the Bushmaster AR15 offering from their website that included reviews. Dick’s Sporting Goods has removed all AR15′s from their offerings at the counter and rumors of trying to return them to the vendors. The NRA has disabled the facebook, and twitter accounts from all the backlash they were getting from anti-gunners.
Cerberus Capital Management is looking to sell their investment in Freedom Arms following the shooting. Freedom Arms controls some of the biggest names in the firearm industry such as Remington, Marlin, Bushmaster, Para just to name a few.
Ruger and Smith & Wesson is seeing a fallout in the stock market seeing a 10% decrease since the shooting. Many folks are rushing to the gun stores buying ammo, accessories and anything they think might be covered in a ban that the Obama administration will propose in a forthcoming ban.
What is to come, is anyone’s guess. It’s a crazy market over there, and one can only hope for stability to return.
