    Looking for a cheap 357 single shot with a long long barrel, like almost rifle length, and preferably one strong enough to be adapted for 357 Maximum. Want to do some serious research for a project - making an AKM that can take all three 357 revolver rounds. Anyone know a good candidate? Best I can think of is Thompson Centre but that ain't cheap. This process would end up destroying the barrel inch by inch as data is collected.

    But it's gotta be a pistol, otherwise it would become an illegal SBR. :(

    AKM = Avtomat Kalashnikov Modernized

    It's one generation later than the AK-47, and the basis for most derivatives we have today. While the AK-47 has a milled receiver, the AKM is stamped.

    The MAK-90, SAR-1, and Maadi MISR are all versions of the AKM.

    would it be possiblefor you to buy the nef and make a pistol grip for it from some nice hardwood then cut the barrel down as much as ya like.? just dont assemble it until both the pistol grip and the barrel are cut to handgun lengths.

    BRG you can rebuild an H&R or NEF shotgun into a 357 Max. Morgan and I built one several years ago on the H&R platform and its a nice shooter. cut the barrel away from the chamber and order a 357 barrel -- bore out the shotgun chamber to just smaller than the new barrel outer dia. heat the old chamber and slip the new barrel inside it all the way to the back and cool the chamber -- this will contract the steel and then all you have to do is chamber and headspace the new barrel -- then your off and running.

    But how do you get around having the gun papered as a pistol in order for it not to be a short barreled rifle, IE a pistol made out of an existing rifle? That does give me an idea, though. Since it's for ballistic, not size reasons that the barrel will be shortened, I suppose putting such an insert inside a shotgun would work just fine, and it could be shortened bit by bit while the shotgun barrel itself is untouched. You know what, I did have other uses for a single shot or double barreled shotgun. And I have a friend who's looking to part with a 20ga single. Hmm.

    Because I would need to know more about barrels under 16" than above, preferably going down all the way to nothing.

    Looks like a nice line, but a little pricey for my research. The single shot shotgun insert is looking like the best idea going.

    If you find an old level gun and grab the barrel I am looking for an old action (pre 1940's) with a 30-30 bolt face
