yup a "fitty cal" hawken pistol.
It was a half finisned and forgotten project that this woman gave me after it had been abandoned by her son.
Only shot it once and gave it to some innocent unsuspecting newbie shooter.

Many years ago I built a BP blunderbuss from a kit. It turned out OK and I kept it as a wall decoration for several years. Quite an unusual gun. I think Dixie Gun Works might have sold them at one time.

I've seen the Class III stuff in kit form....Always figured ATF give me about a month to build it and then come visit :)

The KIT guns Im thinking of are the ones without a reciever or the reciver is cut in 3 places.....Never understood them.

Seen the Black powder rifle kits...but my mind thinks more of the Class 3 stuff I see advertised in some flyers I get.

Built a couple of 50 caliber Hawkens. Took a LOT of work to get them exactly as I wanted.
There is a lot of satisfaction knowing all the blueing, staining, etc is all your work.

Been wanting to build either an AR15 or a FAL from a kit - just haven't sprung for it yet.

Might eventually try a Muzzle-stuffer, though i'm not really into charcoal burning yet, either. ;)

    Class III - that's for those what's got de "Bling-bling". :p

    MY ONE AND ONLY ATTEMPT

i bought a CVA flint lock pistol kit from TWO GUYS in NJ back in the early 70's. well before the NJ dem/libs put all black powder guns in the same class as cartridge guns, with all the b/s to buy them. but i degress.

the stock barrel channel was preinletted, with a major curve to the right, the side plate, and lock plate required major inletting, the openings were too small. gave up trying to make the stock work, gave the kit to a smithy friend for his parts pile:mad:

I too wanna build an AR. Maybe a FAL too someday, but I think the days of the affordable kits are over.

Put together a Rock River lower receiver for the AR 15. Pretty simple to put together. Bought the upper already built, but may do an upper by myself some time in the future

I'm in a similar boat, with an Eagle lower on order. After I get familiar with the AR system, I plan to build one using as much synthetic as possible.

Hey. Papa G. I remember TWO GUYS stores - kind of like an early Wal-mart, right?

KIND OF LIKE AN EARLY WAL-MART???

i wouldn't go that far in describing them. didn't know they got as far as 10 paces south of Canada. i always thought Two Guys was a NJ thang. rummaging through my accumulations(junk) boxes, i still come across fishhooks in the "cellophane" bag with Two Guys price sticker:eek: :D

    Buying BP kits

Looking to buy BP kits, maybe you got them for a gift, and haven't the time or inclination to build/finish.

BattleRiflG3, Mine ran me around $1200. You can put one together for around $800 though.
