Don't know if anyone else watches this series, but the recent episode featured one of the couples (can't recall their name- but I believe they are Inuit) had just gotten a Mosin-Nagant for hunting. She initially had a PU scope on it, but later in the show it was removed as they hunted for Caribou (and took a wolf with it, as well).

Anyone catch this, and could you identify the rifle? Only quick glimpses- all I got was that it was full-length (not a carbine) and had a bladed front sight.

Didn't Enemy At The Gates start by the kid shooting a wolf in the snow with a Mosin?

I, also, could not identify it

I could not identify it but the gun is a good choice for their environment.

The scenes just came and went too quickly.

Yeah, I think he missed though and the horse "bait" got killed or at least bitten. That's how I remember it anyway.

Good series. I used to travel to northern Canada and Alaska. I met a lot of people that lived off the land and did subsistence hunting and fishing. I watched four hours earlier this week that included the last episode of the season. Hope it is back on next season.

    Thanks, Nerd

    Thanks,

I enjoyed the clip. A good matching of shooter, gun, and scope.

She used the PU to shoot the targets but later it shows her shooting an m39 at Caribou. If that was legit and not something fluffed up for TV then she is an amazing shot. Iron sights at ranges like that on a moving animal... extremely impressive.

She has been using the VKT M39 for some time. They just received the 91/30 PU and were going to use it for seal hunting.

Chip and Agnes are avid collectors and Mosin fans. They both post at Gunboards. Chip's handle is Caribou.

You're welcome. I hadn't seen the show and thought others here might want to see that particular clip.

She made some good shots, no doubt.

Yep, that's the one. I knew it wasn't the 91/30, not just because it didn't have a scope but because of the glimpse of the bladed front sight.

Not sure how I feel about the "pot shots" at running caribou (several of which were clean misses)...
Those types of shots have a large probability of wounded game disappearing forever over the horizon. I was really surprised that she took shots at running game like that.

91/30s have a hooded POST front sight not a blade. Just sayin'.

Anyone notice how some of their toys have improved from when they first started the show?

    That's what I said....
The one she was using to hunt Caribou was not a 91/30 because it had a blade sight...
