I just recently purchased my 1st Savage model 99. I wanted something old(not in current production) and something new(did not have yet).
Living in the Southeast US Marlin 336 and Remington 742 were king. I am thrilled about the gun in which I have purchased. I have no idea of when it was made and hoping someone could help me. The serial # on the bottom of the gun is 116xxxx if that helps. It is a Savage 99C in 308.

Thank in advance for any help offerd.

I have rechecked the serial number. I am finding it between the back of the clip and in front of the lever. It reads 11667xx. I wasn't sure in how to post and thanks for your response.

the savage 99 site doesn't cover later production models, but i have from another forum that 99c was made in 1965 and then from 1995 to 1997...
i have another reference book that might help, but i seem to have placed it in some very special place where i can always find it when i need it.... i will probably now send the rest of the day searching for it......
meanwhile someone on the forum will likely have more accurate info for you.....

    Thanks Mad Dog!!!

Seems that by purchasing a Savage 99 I ended up with not only a gun by a place in a family of special gun owners.

I do not think that this will be my only Savage 99 purchase...... probably need at least a couple more..

    as always

i found a missing set of electronic ear protectors, a checkbook full of usable checks, $160.00 i had stuck in an envelope about year and a half ago, a buck knife, several speed loaders; i cleaned several "toxic areas" in my computer room, folded most of my clean clothes...... i STILL can't find that reference book......

but i knew someone would have that info for you.....

I too have some 99s one is a 250-300 e, the second is a 99f. I would like to know if any one out there may have a barrel in 243 for a 99 in good shape that they may want to sell.

Make sure if you find a 243 barrel that it will fit your gun.

Any barrels made after 1960 had a v thread barrel and prior to that would have a square threaded barrel.

Can anyone tell me where to start looking for a forearm/sling stud screw? Or do they make such a animal? I think I have seen on other guns where the swing stud and forearm screw was one and the same

    Thanks in advance

I have an old Savage lever action model 99 250/3000 that we have had in our family for about 50 years. The serial number is 170795. Can anyone tell me how old this rifle is? And I would like some idea about how much it might be worth if I sold it. Thank you

    Made in 1915.

Could be a $200 gun, could be a $1000 gun.

    Condition is the key.

    Depends on what you like.

An EG in 300 Sav made in the 50's is about as common as a Win 94 in 30-30 but if you find an EG in 22 H.P. you've got a gun worth 5 EG's in 300. It's all on what you find and the condition it's in.

Can't just jump into the Savage game without doing alot of research first. Alot of guys jump in quick and then realise $2000 worth down the road that all they have is a safe full of rats.

Thanks for the advise, it is well taken. I intend to have one to hunt with and one to admire. I hope to pass on to my children and hope that they can appricate the sense of sportmanship, workmenship and marksmenship of yesterday.
Not this fade of commercial outdoor world we live in today. It has gotten to who can advertise the most effective and not the quality of items.

I too have been trying to determine the manufacture date of a
    Sav 99CD, .308,
    Ser No B7892XX.
    .
    I have Fjestad's 16th and 25th editions.
    For the 99C:
16th reads: 1965-temporary disc. until late 1995. [very clear info:shrug:]
    25th reads: 1965. 1995-97.
    .
    For the 99CD
    16th reads: 1980-1981.
    25th reads: 1975-1981
