Anyone who handload 300 RUM out there? Let me know if you have info on excellent handloading books that also lists the 300 RUM. It's not even mentioned in my old litterature, to no surprise...
I will need some realy slow burning gun powder for these huuuge cases. I will likely stick to medium-heavy bullets, like 180-200 grains. I will probably stick to light loads as well, since the polar bears are off limit! :09:

(For game like moose, elk and pigs)

I also have a set of Hornady dies. I won't be driving that caliber anytime soon, into my Encore 50cal. now.

    IMR 7828, 870,4831 even 50bmg, i've had great luck with 4831 and speer 200gr bullets out of my 300 weatherby.1/2" groups at a 100yards.
200gr bullets is where the 300s shine.

I was thinking maybe Vihtavuori N170 could do the trick. Anyone who uses this regularly?
If you haven't seen a 300 RUM cartridge, it's just huge. And the powder needs to be really slow and fill up space in there...

Thanks! I'll keep an eye for it.

What's the 338RUM compared to the 300? Is it the same cases and just a wider bullet gap, or larger cases even? I can't really imagine that though... When I look into the chamber it's like a friggin' cave man! And I haven't got it yet because the stupid local sheriff took a good 2 1/2 weeks to even foreward my application... It's just around the corner though, and I've gotten som 200 level 1 rounds (180gr) + a box of level 3 just to scare my neighbors...

the 338 is one monster mine is in the 700 extreme conditions rifle I think it is a smidge shorter so it can handle the long 250 gr bullet but it only gives up 3 or 4 grains, it has 5,000 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle... and has the muzzle energy of a 30-06 at 300 yards and shoots as flat as a 100 gr 25-06... And I got use to looking at the RUM so much that an 06 looks like a pencil!!!!!!!!! but I ahve the hornady book I just have to find it in my reloading room (too many reloading books and random loads onloose paper)

    Powder for large 300 Magnums

I've had my best results in large 300 Magnums with IMR7828 and RL25. Hodgdon and Alliant have Data on their web sites.
    GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

OK, we're getting closer to starting up here. Got a surprise though, as I haven't found any suppliers listing a press, dies m.m. for the 300 RUM. When asked, standard answer seems to be "300 what??!).

Could anyone direct me to simply the best one station press set-up for the 300 RUM? I've only had a 4-station Dillon Square Deal before, so I don't really know where to start when no one else around here in Norway seems to know diddly either...
